Did you guys remember my last thread, about the bad pixel of brand new iMac 20". After calling to Apple, the gentleman agreed to change to another one, due to the 1 dad pixel defection. So anybody got the similar problem as I found on your iMac, please call Apple immediately to claim it. They will be very nice to solve the problem. Please don't leave one or more bad pixels to stay in the screen and accompany you for another 5 years or so.

Thank you for your great helps and comments!

well however lucky you think you are it is technically a defective product.

what is the warranty on dead pixels?

I don't think Apple are very specific ;

There are typically millions of these subpixels on an LCD display. For example, the LCD panel used in the Apple Cinema HD display is made up of 2.3 million pixels and 6.9 million red, green, and blue subpixels. Occasionally, a transistor does not work perfectly, which may result in the affected subpixel being turned on (bright) or turned off (dark). With the millions of subpixels on a display, it is quite possible to have a low number of faulty transistors on an LCD. Therefore, a certain number of subpixel anomalies is considered acceptable. Rejecting all but perfect LCD panels would significantly increase the retail price for products using LCD displays. These factors apply to all manufacturers using LCD technology--not just Apple products.

If you suspect your display contains a high number of pixel anomalies, take your Apple product to an Apple Authorized Service Provider for closer examination. There may be a charge for the evaluation.

Still, Yes it is a defective product.

I have a macbook pro, with 2 dead pixels, i told apple, and they said 'there need to be 6 within 1 inch'

terrible, for such an expensive computer too, it it were a £100 screen i would be annoyed, but not mad with rage!!

I think for those of you that don't live in the US or have an Apple Store near buy you tend to get screwed. I have two Apple Stores within 25 miles of my house, whenever I have a problem it gets taken care of without any questions.

I always here of more customer service problems outside the US. Good example I recently bought an iMac and had one dead pixel, returned it to the store not only did they swap mine out they gave me an extra 10% off because of my trouble. So I got an education discount, extra 10% and a free one year of .mac. Thats service.

Did you purchase it from that store originally? Or was it purchased from the online store?

Also, on a side note... does the care service differ from ordering online compared to in an actual apple store?

I don't know about the rest of the world but I can say that good Apple service is not US-specific nor do you need to live within 25 miles of an Apple Store. Here in Japan the closest Apple Store is about 200 miles away from me in Osaka.

However, one call to Apple Support or creating a repair request online and the next day the courier service is at my door to pick up whatever needs servicing. They will even bring boxes if I specify so. They get the machine overnight and usually have it back within a day or two. A friend of mine returned and got a replacement for his iMac shortly after he got it for two dead pixels.

I've gotten replacements a few times for iPods late in the warranty usually for bad hard drives (from accidental drops) and it was always spotless refurbs. I've got no complaints thus far about the service from Apple Support in Japan.

after reading this thread i thought i would give apple a call in the uk to see if they would do anything about mine which has 1 dead pixel to, i was expecting them to say theres nothing they can do and it is within spec etc. but after talking to 4 people the 5th and final person originally said that there has to be 5 or 6 dead pixels for it to count as a return as the manufacture will see it as within spec, she then asked me if it bothers me alot and if i was sure it was only one dead pixel to which i told her yes to both because the pixel is in the dead centre of he screen pretty much. After i told her this she said ok, ill go and talk to my supervisor, when she came back she said as its coming upto christmas and as a special case they would arrange and replacement to be sent to me and i should receive that tomorrow because the apple warehouse is only about 5 miles from my house... whereas the nearest store is about 70 miles away... and then they would arrange for TNT to pick my old one up and get it sent back to them!

Now this is the apple service i have heard so much about... absolutely fantastic!! so everyone with a dead pixel etc call apple now and you might get lucky as its nearly christmas!!
:D

Don't be hesitate to call Apple!

Nice to hear that other people got Apple's replacement due to DEAD or STUCK pixels on their iMac. Actually my one is a STUCK pixel, which is a green light on the screen. When I turned the background to black, that green light is very light. I think everybody is deserve to have a perfect computer, no matter they are cheap or expensive.

Good luck everybody, hope our next iMac will be in perfect conditions!!!

It is technically NOT a defective product. They were being nice. Don't get everybody thinking this is standard practice.

Then what the DEFECTIVE means to you? STCUK pixels are not defective?

Could you explain it in details?

Apple pixel info

I know that if I'd just paid top dollar for a brand new machine and there was a dead pixel staring at me in the middle of the screen it would bug the heck out of me. The same goes if I'd just splashed out for a new TV.

I think what Apple are doing here is being sensible and all credit to them for their excellent customer service.

If I had a machine and there was a pixel towards the sides or top or bottom I probably wouldn't notice it or forget about it pretty quickly.

I have noticed in the local branch of a large electric store chain they are advertising a TV with a guarantee that there will be no dead pixels or they will replace the set. LCD units are just going to continue falling in price over the coming year so I guess they must be able to calculate some dead units in their profit margins.

As for Apple and profits, we all know that at the moment they are laughing all the way to the bank. So they certainly can afford to be nice to their customers.

I have a stuck pixel, a little bit above the dock. Bugs the hell outta me, especially when im watching a widescreen movie and theres black on the top and bottom of the screen, it seems to be screaming "look at me!!!!!!!!"

Im kinda hesitant to call apple. I dont want to be rejected, lol

If it is just stuck instead of calling apple, there are some movies that you can play that are designed to unstick pixels, so try that if it is stuck before sending it back to Apple.

That is really a shame, when paying that much money for a professional laptop you should not have to deal with dead pixels in my opinion.
