Apple Airpods and ios 10.1.1

I got my airpods yesterday. My iPhone 7 Plus is on ios 10.1.1.
Can my airpods work with my phone or do I need to update the software?

Well I have not yet opened the box yet. I wanted to check if there was a problem with airpods working with iOS 10.1.1 then I will sell the airpods as they are very hard to get stock in Hong Kong. Many people are selling them for a good profit. My priority is to use them but if I have to choose between airpods and jailbreak. I am sure I will be happier with jailbreak.

So in short I am just checking.
