Apple AirPods Firmware

Just checking if others have received the same version firmware update for their AirPods and if there are different versions per region, etc. after updating to iOS 12.2.
My AirPods (A1523) firmware was updated to version 6.3.2 for hardware version 1.0.0. This was a rather large jump from firmware version 3.7.2. I'll look for a changelog but doubtful that I'll find one. They seem to connect and switch devices much faster. I don't know what other improvements there maybe that someone else could notice. Anyone else want to comment?

Mine shows the updated firmware 6.3.2. I think they actually sound better?

Did you ever resolve it? Perhaps after updating to iOS 12.2, you may need to remove the AirPods, reset them with holding the pairing button, and then reconnect. The update is automatically applied to the AirPods when in proximity. I don't know if it requires to be connected to WiFi for AirPods firmware updates.

Mine updated ... I had the airpods case connected to the lightning charger, with the airpods in the case, and briefly opened/closed the case in proximity of the phone.

How do you search for AirPods updates?

Connect AirPods to iPhone running on iOS 12.2 by opening them within proximity. The notification which pops up for battery life remaining is usually an indicator. The firmware update check is automatically performed through iOS. You can't manually check. If you still don't receive it, then attempt to remove your AirPods, reset them with the pairing button, and reconnect.

I tried again this morning and they updated. Not sure why they wouldn’t do it last night but, all is well!

Ok, I haven't received the new ones yet but I am having a weird issue with the originals with the latest firmware. Here is the situation - I am streaming a local radio station using their app (SportsDay - The Ticket in DFW). When I double tap (as I have this setup to Pause/Play) the radio station slowly reduces volume and then Apple Music starts. Anyone else having any issues like this? Can't wait to check the second version.

Check your double tap settings, remove/reset AirPods, reboot iPhone.

Did the above and tested again - still the same but I tried the other ear which I have set for "Next Track" and that too turns the radio off and starts Apple Music.
One other test - left it on Siri and Siri did come up and not Apple Music.
Next: made sure Apple music was closed but it still started playing music with a double tap.
Next: turned off the double tap and that works because it didn't do anything
Next: started Apple Music and double tap works fine.
Next I will try another app - Tried NGEN Radio and it works fine. It might just be the Sports Day app.

Apps that work - Amazon Music, Way-FM and NGEN Radio

I am leaning towards the Sports Day app not working properly.

If you've tried everything mentioned, then perhaps reset iOS settings on the iPhone. If this doesn't work, then perhaps you've got an anomaly. There shouldn't be a reason that it wouldn't update. Are the AirPods A1523?

- Airpods in case
- Case plugged into power
- Wait...
- Wait... Go to bathroom or get coffee..
- Then Hopefully Done....

The switching connectivity isn't dramatically faster with the 1st gen on the latest firmware, if at all. The second gen is definitely faster. The second gen are louder and sound better.

I think most 1st gen owners will be upgrading for a new healthy battery more than anything though.

Check battery life and connect to charger. Either way, the update has most likely not been pulled since it's being reported on other sites, as well.

Replace AirPods in case and reboot phone, if you've not done this since iOS update. Reconnect AirPods. Information is in "Settings > General > About".

I have had that happen before and I put the Airpods back in the case then pulled them out again and for some reason they were there.

UPDATE: I had to reboot the phone to get this menu to appear.

Open the case door. The airpods will show up in the About menu.

Mine updated overnight apparently but were not plugged into power.
