Hi All,

I have an apple airport extreme router and a summer infant baby monitor. When the baby monitor is turned on the wifi internet connection speed is drastically reduced to a speed which is unusable. As soon as the baby monitor is turned off its back up to speed.

I emailed the summer infant directly to ask if anything could be done to change the channel the baby monitor operates on with no success - they have mentioned that it cannot be updated and that it will automatically operate over 18 channels and hop between them all to avoid interfering with other devices on the same 2.4GHz band. The channel list it uses is as below.

I have tried changing my airport extreme to use a channel that is not listed above - such as 13 - but this did not seem to help the situation. Does anyone have any further ideas as to how I can help resolve this issue? Is there another channel I should use, or an option I could enable to help fix things?

Thanks so much, any help much appreciated.

Hi BrianBaughn,

I have 5GHz enabled - however find that it is only fast if I am standing in the same room as the router itself. The rest of the house is terribly slow on either the 5GHz and 2.4GHz channel.

If the wifi is sub-par without the monitor on at all it sounds like you've definitely got some structural interference...and that's your main problem. Without it you might be able to use the monitor and have littie issue. A baby monitor that works in conjunction with your existing wifi would be one solution, of course. The other would be wiring. But you've thought of these things.
