My home network is currently supplied through an Apple Airport Extreme which receives it's internet connection from the modem supplied free from TalkTalk.

Tomorrow my internet connection will switch to BT and I have received the free BT Home Hub 5.

My question is whether there is any need to keep the Apple Airport Extreme, or whether I should just run my home network off the BT Home Hub 5?

The BT Home Hub 5 offers 802.11ac Wifi which I believe equals the standard of the Apple Airport Extreme. So is there any benefit of passing the internet connection onto the Apple Airport Extreme to supply the wifi network?

the hub 5 is crap for wifi, i use my AE bridged through my Hub 5, i also turn the wifi off on the hub and just use the AE for my wifi network. Im surprised you only got a hub 5 sent out as BT have been sending Hub 6's out for the last couple of months. Are you moving to BT Infinity?

Personally would just suggest that you change the login credentials on the AE to your BT ones and ignore the HH5 altogether.

Years ago stopped using the routers supplied by UK ISP. Bought a Draytek 120 when on ADSL and these days use a Draytek 130 as the modem, with my AE.

If an Apple Home like mine is then find that the AE wireless is superb with the Apple gear I have. I am on plusnet.
