This is the way i have understood everything i have read.
NO, you won't be able to purchase the iphone through your normal buisness means, in other words you can't have your buisness buy it for you.
As buying as in individial, i think you will still get the corporate discounts if they apply as the discount is setup with AT&T and your corporation / buisness.
Not sure how all buisnesses are setup, but for me, my discount on personal phones is the following
% off MSRP on phone hardware, this is useless when getting a phone that is subsidized with a contract (read not-applicable to iphone)
% off monthly re-occuring plan fees (does not apply to data plans), so discount on voice plan only. No discount on taxes and fees of course
% off MSRP on accessories

Of course this could change, but i have not found anything so far to beleive the above would not apply to an iphone

I'd be surprised if businesses agreed to buying iPhones for their employees. The iPhone isn't exactly a perfect business phone, I would imagine most companies would stick with the black berries and Moto Qs before buying $500 phones.

i think were screwed - do you think that they are going to let us walk out of the apple store without signing a new 2 year contract? For some reason I have high doubts about this...i have had our internal manager of our business phones print out our agreement with all the pertinent account information and am going to take this with me, but I just have this feeling that when I get to the ATT store theyre going to say you cant get one with that info. and that I am going to be required to start a new 2 year contract.

I really hope not, but this is what I would bet my $ on.

you'll still most likely be permitted to get discounts on service (just go into the store and sign up, but remember that discounts don't apply to data plans IIRC) but you will not be exempt from the 2 year contract rule and there will not be discounts on hardware. The discounts on hardware are normally totally useless anyway.

We get 20% off all hardware.

We also just signed a 5 year contract.

I could care less about discounts and extending the contract - if only they would give me the option to do so! you know?

This is very unfortunate!

We get the same discount, but on personal phones, it usually adds up to a price greater than the 2 year contract price.

However, I did use it to buy a blackberry curve so they couldn't drag me in for two years.

my current discount is 50% of MSRP on hardware and 27% off calling plans. that 50% off works out better than subsidized prices in some cases. HOWEVER, Cingular exempts anything considered a smart phone or PDA from hardware discounts. if AT&T is following the same rules, even if you're normally eligible for a hardware discount, you probably won't get it on the iPhone. hopefully i'm wrong, would be sweet to score one for $300.

Not going to happen for release. I've heard not even AT&T employees can get their discount on iPhone, but may change come October. My bro works for AT&T (not wireless divn) and that's what they're being told.

We're screwed: confirmed through out rep. today via email.

Subject: FYI iPhone

I received this information today and wanted to pass it on. We will not be able to transfer individuals who purchase the iPhone over to Business accountsL We will need to wait for the B2B launch for iPhones used on Corporate accounts.

Corporate Responsibility Users (CRUs) will not be able to use the iPhone. CRUs will have the option of signing up for a new line of service as a consumer, switching to an IRU or selecting other available devices.

Have a great Friday,
