The prism 5X lens is a HUGE (stop-gap) disappointment. This is not an optical zoom; it's a fixed focal length lens (with some non-negligable light loss in all likelihood). This means taking photos between 1X and 4.9X will be crops of the main sensor. If they had used the Sony system, you would have a proper optical zoom lens at focal lengths in the 2x-5x range.

All I can figure is a) Sony was too expensive for Apple's ginourmous margins, b) Sony would not sell them the tech, or c) they couldn't fit a periscope system in the body.
I think the prism is going to be found to be far and away more durable and stable than the traditional periscope systems, that’s my hunch.

This is me, I’ve got a normal iPhone 12. It looks like I can get a totally free iPhone 15 if I trade it in, or get the Pro for $200 extra of my own cash. I’m not sure it’s worth it, I’ve never had a Pro iPhone. I do like the extra camera though, and higher refresh rate screen. The titanium looks nice, but I don’t really care either way what it’s made out of since I usually slap a case on it right away.

I personally love the pro versions. But I’ve never not had them. I get them for screen size, battery life, and camera. Also, because they seem to put all their stuff in the PM and I want all the tech.

Idk the most compelling thing for me is 6E(for no other reason than I have 2 nice shiny 6E AP’s) and the camera. $1000 off from Verizon gives me something to think about. However, it goes back all the way to the 11 Pro series. If I follow this logic, I could wait 12 months. Spend the 12 months of Apple Care, and then trade it in for the 16 flagship. Getting more out of my 13 pro max phone per dollar spent. Especially since that was $1000 off as well.

I’m really not sure what to do. The phone is definitely not screaming buy me. But there’s a real financial incentive.

I’m guessing next year it’s going to be A18, A18pro, A18max/A18 ultra.
Looks like it is $800 off for Verizon over 3 years.
$1000 for AT&T over 3 years.
$1000 for T-Mobile over 2 years.

Verizon offers have really started to suck compared to the other 2 big guys.

With all the hype and rumors before the event, I was kind of worried that I picked the wrong gen to upgrade with 14 Pro, but lol.

15 Pro has the same exact display, same exact camera sensors, same exact battery life claims (wasn't this rumored to get a big upgrade?)

Only real differences are titanium vs. steel, USB-C vs. Lightning (which I only use to charge anyway, so whatever) and 10% faster chip...

I thought 3 nm would bring a substantial uplift, but Apple goes with yet another year of +10% CPU performance...

This truly was a letdown.

I know USB-C is a more adopted standard, I just know it can be a flimsier solution in a mobile device compared to say a MacBook. I am not unplugging and plugging in my MacBook as much as I do my iPhone, and I have had experience with the USB-C port failing in more mobile devices like vapes after repeated charging use. Oh well, have to "get with the times" I guess.
That tongue on the device looks so flimsy I may switch to induction which is hard on batteries (heat). On the other hand....the studies show it seems to hold up ok but I know people who lost phones that way.

I didn't manage to watch the presentation and just looked at their website, so I am a bit confused regarding the difference between Pro and Pro Max.

5x (prisma/periscope) vs 3x fixed

AND

larger sensor on the Max?

Or did I misunderstand it?

That’s what I saw, could have sworn I heard $1000 in the video, and when putting in my trade in it shows $800 in bill credits. Yet in the little window it says up to $1000 and shows AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon.

I’m curious what the Verizon site is going to say.

Pay better attention. Hardware Ray Tracing alone is a very big deal.

Apple today announced the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, its latest flagship smartphones. The devices sport an array of new features, including a titanium frame, the A17 Pro chip, an Action Button, and more.

The new titanium chassis has a brushed finish. It makes the iPhone lighter than any previous Pro model, while enhancing durability. The frame has a contoured edge for a more comfortable feel in the hand. The bezels around the display are also substantially slimmer.

The iPhone 15 Pro features an Action button in place of the mute switch. With a press and hold, users can toggle between ring and silent, with haptic feedback to indicate a change of state. Users can switch between different actions, allowing them to start recording in voice memos, launch the camera, activate a favorite accessibility, feature, or run a Shortcut.

The new devices feature Apple's A17 Pro chip, made with a first-of-its-kind 3-nanometer process. The A17 Pro has a six-core CPU, for 10% faster CPU performance and 20% faster GPU performance. It has a two-times faster 16-core neural engine to accelerate machine learning such as more accurate autocorrect or pulling a subject from an image. It can process up to 35 trillion operations per second.

The A17 Pro contains a brand new GPU with an Apple-designed shader architecture. Apple says it is the biggest redesign in the history of Apple GPUs, with a focus on performance and efficiency, running complex applications, and new rendering features. It offers hardware-accelerated ray tracing and new Mesh shading capabilities. Console games like Resident Evil 4 can now be played on the iPhone.

The iPhone 15 Pro features an improved camera system. The main camera has a larger sensor, a new coating to reduce lens flare, better low light performance for Portraits and Night mode, a range of focal lengths, a new 24MP super-high-resolution default mode, and more. The iPhone 15 Pro Max's telephoto camera offers 5x optical zoom at 180mm focal length with a 25% larger sensor. This is combined with optical image stabilization and an autofocus 3D sensor-shift module, which Apple says is its most advanced stabilization system yet. The Ultrawide camera has a new anti-reflective coating, as well as improved Night mode and Smart HDR.

The iPhone 15 Pro models feature a USB-C port for charging and data transfer. The A17 Pro supports up to 10Gbps transfer speeds with a USB 3 cable. Using a cable, users can instantly transfer 48MP ProRaw photos to a Mac or record ProRes video directly to an external storage drive. Higher quality recording options are available for external drives, with support for 4K60 for the first time, plus Log encoding.

The iPhone 15 Pro, like the standard iPhone 15 models, has a next-generation Portrait mode that automatically detects when there's a subject in the frame, allowing you to switch to Portrait mode after an image has been taken. There is also new focus and depth control tools, allowing you to switch focus from one person to another after the photo has been taken. Night mode is also improved, while and Smart HDR allows the device to capture the sky and subject simultaneously.

The iPhone 15 Pro has Apple's second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, allowing other devices with the chip to connect from up to 3x as far away and friends that share their location with you to be located directionally like an AirTag. The devices also support Wi-Fi 6E, Qi2 charging, and Thread, opening up future opportunities for Home app integrations. Building on Emergency SOS via Satellite, it is now possible to connect to a satellite for roadside assistance. Audio quality for calls has been updated with a more advanced machine learning model that prioritizes your voice.

The iPhone 15 Pro models are available in Black Titanium, White Titanium, Blue Titanium, Natural Titanium. The iPhone 15 Pro starts at $999 for 128GB of storage, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max starts at $1,199 for 256GB of storage.

Or d) the solution is used is generally better for Apple users. We do not know yet.
