I'm not sure if any of this has been posted before, so I apologize if I'm being redundant.
I briefly spoke with an AT&T executive who is a friend of the family last night about the iPhone. He mentioned during the conversation that even he currently has no idea what the subscription plan for the iPhone and data plan will be. He did however state that you can't go about activating and subscribing your phone at the AT&T store you buy the phone from.

Because Apple and AT&T will be splitting the profits from the additional data plan subscriptions, you must go home and activate your iPhone online through the Apple website.

Sorry I'm so sparse on details, but he told me this was the most underwraps release he's ever experienced in his time with the company, and these were the only details even he was aware of.

I have a hard time believing they will allow the phones to leave the store without activation. This would leave to wide spread eBaying and maybe a lot of returns on people who find out they need a credit check.

may they will gather your information and payment and log that electronically and if it is sold on ebay and the other person tries to register it, it will give them an error and they wont be able to use it.
