Apple this week added the latest-generation iMac with the M3 chip to its certified refurbished store in Canada for the first time since the computer was introduced in October. As a reminder, availability in the U.S. began last month.

As usual for Apple's refurbished products, the refurbished iMacs are discounted by approximately 15% compared to the equivalent brand new models, with pricing starting at $1,439 CAD. A variety of configurations and color options are available.

All of the usual accessories are included in the box, including a Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, power adapter and cord, and USB-C to Lightning cable.

Apple says it puts refurbished Macs through "full functionality testing" and a "thorough cleaning process and inspection," and they are covered by Apple's one-year limited warranty and eligible for extended AppleCare+ coverage.

In our view, Apple's refurbished Macs are virtually indistinguishable from brand new ones, providing a good opportunity for savings directly from Apple.

Apple also began selling refurbished 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max chips in Canada last month.

Wow, do people still use a mouse instead of a trackpad? I've not touched a mouse in the last twelve years. Not sure what I would use a Lightning cable for either.
I have owned a trackpad for a couple weeks and I feel you, almost never touched the mouse since then. I regret not owning the blue version when I bought my iMac. My bad. Next time then

The lightning cable is used to charge the rechargeable keyboard and mouse/trackpad as these peripherals have lighting connectors, not USB-C.

It's really time for those accessories to make the switch. I need a new magic mouse and keyboard and I'm holding out for them to become usb c (I would also like the compact magic keyboard to come in black, like it used to).

I agree; those, the work iPhone I have (13), and my AirPods Max are the things holding me back from ditching lightning for good

Also, aside from the port change, Apple REALLLY needs to put the port somewhere else (hint, not on the bottom) so you can actually use it at the same time as a sort of wired mouse while it's charging

Gah, it's a sure way to get me to curse everyone into oblivion for the next 10 generations.

Touchpads lack precision for design work, that's my personal issue with them.

This does seem a little tempting, and I really want to buy a new iMac to replace my aging 27-inch 2017 model...

...but $1099 for a refurbished M3 with 8GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, and $1049 for the three-year-old M1 equivalent? It's 2024, even brand-new mid-range Android phones will give you at least 16 GB of RAM for less than $600!

(I guess Apple really needs to make back the $10 billion they threw away on the Apple car, huh? :p)
There's a 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB storage config if you want.
I highly recommend both of those upgrades.

The difference will be day and night with your 2017 iMac.

Best Buy has the 8CPU/8GPU M1 iMac today for $899 (down from $1499).

It’s funny, a refurbished M2 Mac mini base model is more expensive than the $499 price for a new one at Best Buy.

Good to see that refurbished iMac is now available. 15% is not much. Sometimes brand new iMacs can be had on sale from some retailers.

WTF do I need to do with a 9GHz single-thread CPU core? My M3 MacBook lasts 3 days with regular usage. Try that with a 14900KS running on battery.
We are at a point where the power of these devices exceed what most people need from them. It’s similar to the horsepower war in cars. No one needs a Mustang GT or Dodge Challenger RT with 400+ horsepower just commute to work and run their daily errands. No one (or very few) needs a semi sized SUV or fullsize pickup to do most of what they’re used for everyday. These are not sought for any genuine practical reason, but mostly because people like them for emotional reasons and to project a given image.

Powerful computers have uses for those relative few doing heavy and intensive tasks, but the majority of people generally don’t need that kind of power.
