If Apple want the TV to be a huge success they need to hurry with the rentals, and HD content.

Check out this new device that could take away from the success of the AppleTV. It's called Vudu, while it doesn't have the sleek Apple interface. It is really close to what the AppleTV could be.

They have rentals with all major movie studios signed up for $.99-$3.99 with the option to buy your movie for $4.99-$19.99. It even has HD movies too.

Damn Apple hurry up, you guys know you can do it better than these guys...

If Apple plays there cards right they could have a wicked movie rental service. While this device is slightly pricier than the AppleTV coming in at $399.99 so we shouldn't get too worried. But this look like a glimpse of what is to come...

i have a good feeling that appletv and iphone users will get some very happy updates in january plus we all know its the studios that need to pull there fingers out, they are so dumb that they are to scared to make some money, im actually surprised they have the guts to release a film, will know one tell thee guys that dishonest people will find a way no matter what, and honest people need to be trusted and treated with a little respect or they feel like 'why should i pay'

I think they care about it very much, but are facing a coalition of broadcasters, producers, studios, distributors, retailers and Microsoft who are determined to not let Apple repeat the market-dominating power of the iPod's hardware platform, which has let them call the shots on pricing and track availability for music.

No no, just the rental aspect of it. If Apple could get the studio support and follow elements of this business model it would be a big push for AppleTV. But asides from the rentals, this box has nothing on AppleTV.

Here's An Idea...

I think Apple should take full profit from the hardware (Apple TV) and then let the movie companies take full profit on the movies that they sell.

What do either companies have to lose?

A win win situation for both Apple and the movie companies because people will love the fact that Apple is the only company that has all the major movie corporations on board and then we will all go out and purchase Apple TV's.

Offer a rental service with a sleek interface and they are golden!

Uhh.. that's practically what Apple does—it's called the "iPod/iTunes" model. The problem is studios want the profit they would have received from a DVD release plus additional revenue because the method of delivery was "convenient."

I see many folks asking about Blu-Ray multifunction devices, but these people invariably have Cable TV and a DVD rental habit.

TV seeks to leapfrog, more plastic cluttering shelves, and make one their own Network-Programming-Guru.

As a NPG, all my def is what I call pretty good def. I don't use HD differentiation anymore.

The one and only thing that would get me to use my TV for video would be support for 4:3 mode. I currently have one, and use it for audio, but cannot use it for video because my tv is only 4:3 format. Without this change, no amount of video rentals or other features would help much.
