There's no "Reading Now" section on the macOS version of Apple Books like there is on iOS/iPadOS. The macOS version didn't even remember my place in the book I'm reading that is saved on iCloud across my iPad and iPhone. It doesn't keep track of how much you've read for the day. There's no reading goal.

This feature parity is pretty frustrating given how much Apple loves to tout its ecosystem and seamlessness. Do you have similar frustrations for the macOS Books app? Have you found work-arounds? Is this just a Big Sur bug? Maybe the Apple Silicone version of macOS Big Sur will just port the iPadOS app?

And for those who ask, yes, I have submitted feedback directly to Apple.

Agree with frustration - there are a bunch of differences between IOS and MAC versions of books - hate the differences

Yeah, it's bad. The store still has that design from 5 years ago as well. I guess Books is gonna get a Catalyst version next year, just like Messages and Maps in Big Sur. It just makes sense for those apps that have Apple services.

Yes, it will probably be replaced with the iOS version when Catalyst will get more mature. Books is already a sandboxed app with a self-contained library, there won't be any major issue to replace it.
