Same as me.

Update failed. 3104 error.

Have the most recent version of iTunes. Tried different account. Nothing. Apple support closed here (New Zealand). Nice.

-3104 Extraction error. Google is your friend! Probably didn't get the whole update or something along those lines. Try again.

Problem encountered during 3.0.1 update

First off, I'm new at this. Please excuse my noobishness.

Ok, I have an iPhone 3GS, not jailbroken (not even sure how to do that) and I decided to update to the new OS version (3.0.1). Downloaded fine but upon installation, I encountered an error message (sorry I dismissed too quickly, I don't have the code). Now the phone is stuck in recovery mode (iTunes logo with a USB cord pointing towards it). I've tried restarting the device and completely reinstalling iTunes. Nada. iTunes won't even recognize the phone and whenever I plug it in, I get a message from Windows saying "New Hardware Found, etc." and prompts me to install a new driver. The only driver available when going through the prompt is "Apple Recovery (iBoot) USB Driver."

If this helps:

Windows XP64 Pro
iPhone OS 3.0
iTunes ver 8.2.1.6

well it looks like that once again apple .... us!!

Had you been a little more patient and waited until all the hysteria died down, you probably wouldn't have had a problem. The same thing happened when 3.0 came out. Wait a bit. It's not Apple's fault; they're trying to fix a hack issue. People would bitch if they did nothing too.

why should i wait. would u wait if your banks calls you and tell you that a hacker had stolen sensitive data and you might be compromise. i bet you wouldnt. people need to stop making excuses for apple, they make billions of dollars selling the iphone, so why should i feel sorry for the

Okay, well here's what I am doing:

I am waiting, because when 3.0 came out there were so many people DLing it that it caused problems. So, I try to learn from others mistakes.

I am waiting, because I have yet to hear how anyone has been affected by this SMS vulnerability. Haven't seen one report of anyone being hacked.....nada. Trust me, had anyone, it would be all over this site. All I've seen is people playing jokes on others.

Tried them all, none work. I'm still getting "Apple Mobile Device (Recovery Mode)" whenever I connect my iPhone and iTunes doesn't recognize the device.

So, try DFU Recovery Mode.

Here's a link for how to do this:

Make sure you follow the steps exactly.

i was able to update to 3.0.1 had to delete itunes and reinstall it again. hope this helps

Tried that as well early on - no luck. Am stuck with a bricked phone that can't be restored. Wow. This is a great Apple experience :)

Well I guess congratulations to the both of us, we are now the proud owners of $300 paper weights. Customer service is no help, I think she's reading from this thread too.
