Apple patched this a while back but it's back on our iPhones. Can Apple fix this once and for all? Or, do we have to switch to Google Calendar?

I think the original point is quite valid that this used to be blocked at the server-side without user interaction and is now suddenly working so people are getting calendar pop-ups

Did you read the attached article from MalwareBytes?

This doesn’t happen in a vacuum - the user has to have some level of proactive engagement with a malicious app or website first.
