No question here; just an anecdote:

I applied for an Apple Card when it first came out last year. I was denied because I didn't have a state ID card. Although I have a house in Portland OR and a decent credit score (825) and several other US credit cards, I spend most of my time abroad so neither have nor need a state driver's license or ID. I tried using my passport and Global Entry card but those were not acceptable.

So, I kept trying every month or so. Always denied.

Finally, last month I applied, was not asked for a state ID card and was instantly approved. The only thing that changed on my end was that I ditched the AmEx card I've had since 1973 because they raised the annual fee. Perhaps Goldman Sachs changed their policy on what constitutes identity verification.

I didn't order a physical card, but Apple sent one anyway. I called to ask what to do and they sent instructions and a pre-paid FedEx label so that I could "recycle" it. Of course, that involves cycling to FedEx which I don't plan to do any time soon.

That's it.

Why would you be bothered to send a card back or even contact Apple about it? Just put it in a drawer at home and don't use it... Snap it in half if you are worried about it.

I guess I didn't make it clear that I have no intention of sending it back. I'm actually stuck in Thailand now due to the Corona virus. So, the card is sitting in Portland while I'm languishing in Korat.

The OP was clearly labeled as an anecdote. I wasn't seeking advice. I called Apple mainly to find out if there was any way to activate the card when the card and my phone were on opposite sides of the Pacific ocean. There was not. The Apple rep suggested that I recycle it and sent me the instructions via email. I have no concerns at all because the card contains no ID info on it at all and can't be used for anything until it's activated.

Right now my sister has stuck the card to the fridge using a rare earth magnet scavenged from a failed hard drive.

She says it looks very nice.

Lighten up.

I'm not sure this is true. Your sister has found it to be a passable work of art. Might make a good letter opener. Would probably make a decent shiv if smuggled into prison before being snapped as suggested.
