I couldn't find it on the UK website, is this going to launced as well? Worth to invest in?

First gen iPad...hundreds if dollars
Chances of some problem popping up on said first generation iPad...not low

AppleCare on first generation iPad...priceless

Chance most AppleCare iPad claims thrown out due to user misuse of the portable iPad...

Yes, apple will offer it and yes its almost a requirement.

I'll be buying both the iPad and the warranty.

My guess is it will be $99 for 2 years here in the states. Makes sense. Slightly higher than the iPhone's $69 plan, but still following the 2 year coverage of all iPods/Phones.

I would wait to buy it until the free year is up. Barring any manufacturing defects that would probably show up in the first year, most problems are probably going to be user error-related damage anyway (e.g. dropping). If it turns out that they are somehow fragile in a way that they break without it being the user's fault, then you can buy the extra 2 years.

I'll just pay with my Amex that doubles the manufacturer warranty automatically.

Hmm...you're right, I could do that as well. But then if/when something happens, you would need to try to explain to AmEx what the issue is (unless the device just flat out dies). Have you dealt with them before with something of a similar nature?

Squaretrade

I think I'm going with Squaretrade because I can also get accidental insurance and it tends to still come out cheaper. I figure this being portable, I'm more likely to drop it or something. I already had to get a new iPhone with Squaretrade (dropped in water) and they were easy. You just have to give proof of purchase and wait for processing.

You submit a claim online, send the unit in, they either fix it or reimburse you. I've never had to do it fortunately.

Well that's the thing. Can't go to the Genius Bar and really expect any support after the 1 year warranty runs out and you actually need some type of repair or a replacement. I'm wondering though now what would be our expected lifespan for an iPad. Apple will likely double the memory capacity in next release, among other improvements. Hmm, at least I'll have one year to decide which way to go. :)

Looks to be $99 for two years. Makes sense. I'll wait a year and make sure I don't break it first!
