Apple care from ebay

Has anyone purchased a cheap Applecare from ebay for a Imac and had problems ?

I take it they email you the key and it all looks good until you try claiming ?

I purchased 2 for my Macbooks but never claimed, now heard they don't work. Is this correct ?

I bought 2 Applecare for Macbook Pro and one for an iMac (27") and everything went great (all 3 were emailed codes).

On one of the macbook pro I had LOTS of work done before and AFTER the one year mark so my warranty was valid for sure (believe me I was on the phone with them ALL the time, it was the first gen Intel MBP....)
