What happens when you get Apple care from a private seller. How does it work I suppose they have to put the piece of paper with it on in the box. The Apple is like a guarantee.

It's important to note that only Apple or Apple authorized sellers can sell AppleCare or AppleCare+.

A device that is covered is then, well it's just covered. It's based on the serial # of the device in question. No paper based proof is needed or required.

Thanks for that TiggrToo :)So I would have to ask the seller before I bought it not that he would likely give the information before I bought it.I hope you have a good weekend. :)

I generally ask the seller for the serial number before purchase.
Check this on Apple's site and it will let you know how long is left on the warranty (other its the standard 1 year or Applecare+ etc).
The warranty is tied to the device rather then the person - although if you can get a copy of the original invoice then even better.

In the advert, he thinks it is a year. Bearing in mind it is a 2017 5k modal there should not be any problems with it anyway.:)

Sounds very fishy without solid proof. A seller should be able to provide a written Proof of Coverage certificate, which is what Apple emails an owner after purchasing Applecare. It looks like this (my device-specific info is blanked out):

Never EVER buy "AppleCare" from a 3rd party seller who will send you only a "registration number" -- who tells you "that's all you need".

Most (all?) of these are SCAMS. The "registration numbers" are phony.

A long-running thread from this forum, years ago.
Read ALL of it.
Thanks for that, hope you are having a good weekend. :)I looked at the add again and saw that it was collect in person, the person is the other side of the country so no good anyway.

When it comes to Apple products, there are no "deals" from anyone but Apple. At least, not without risk. Buy used/refurb products directly from Apple if you expect any sort of warranty. Beware of really low prices on reasonably new products... they're almost always stolen/black market. Never buy sight-unseen from actual owners/people... make sure you can actually turn the machine on and log-in before handing over cash.

It's one thing to buy an old Mac that you know isn't under warranty and therefore are paying next to nothing. But in general, unless you buy from Apple or an authorized reseller, there generally is no "deal" - only headaches.

This is of course just my opinion. I take the stance of "the potential for headaches and financial loss just isn't worth saving a few hundred dollars."

I am putting this on hoping someone will give me advice.
I don,t know whether to go for this 27 iMac 2017 3.4 8gb 1Tb Fusion with a 1-year warranty or a private seller with the same modal but with 24gb and a 250 SSD .both the same price This has been well looked after and is in great condition. so says the private seller I think the advert had been taken down but it is now up again, I was looking for it but thought it had been sold. So what do you think?

What I think is buy from the Apple Refurb store where you get Apple's one year warranty, option to buy Applecare+ for your product, like-new condition, and the same easy return policy as with brand new products.

It is not the Apple store the name of the place is So no Applecare.
Applesuperstore is one of the emerging online electronics store dealing in refurbished Apple products. Operating under E-Trade Tech Ltd, Apple Super Store is set to establish itself as most credible and trusted Refurbished Apple products seller in the United Kingdom.
We work with trusted suppliers to ensure that we provide the best quality refurbished Apple products to our customers. This product is Grade A products are sold as new, showing little or no signs of use.
The other thing is that the place where are is not far from me so easy to take it back if anything were to go wrong with it. I missed out on the private seller, eBay said I could get it for 10%off the price but only saw the message today it was too late.:(i would have got it at that price. I don,t know why but a lot of people are selling that modal second hand
