Apple is sending me a replacement for my iPad gen 7 due to a cracked screen. I did express replacement. Are the replacements new, or refurbed with new batteries? I am hoping the replacement will have better battery life.

They are typically refurbs. Very rarely have I heard of someone getting a new device so most likely you’ll get a refurb that will look and perform as new.

I’ve had good luck with Apple Care replacement iPads. You’re going to get a refurb btw, which isn’t a bad thing, they are typically top notch.

On my last iPad replacement to my surprise I was told that iPads weren't repaired, they were recycled and I would be sent a new one.

Is there any hard data indicating that they are refurbished?

Apple doesn’t like to call them refurbs, they call them as new replacements. Because they do use a brand new body, new screen and battery. So they do look and act as brand new.

So they are right in saying they aren’t sending you back your device after it’s repaired. They recycle them and reuse whatever internal parts that are in perfect working order
