I called our local Apple store to discuss a problem I've been having with my battery (1 hour 35 minutes usage & 1 day 11 hours standby) from last full charge, and I was connected with what I believe was called Apple Care. The very first thing he had me do was connect to my dock, and check for a software update. I asked him if an update was supposed to be available, and he said if it isn't out there now, it will be shortly. He said it's a small update, and one of the issues it's supposed to address are battery problems. I would like to think that they would know if/when an update is coming out...

Well now it's 6:39 Apple time. No update. Think we have been had? :apple:

Well even if this is bogus info, they'll have to release a patch sometime before August 2nd. That's not too far away.

I.S.E. plans on presenting how they hacked the iPhone at the Black Hat Conference.

Gotcha. I guess that would create a little haste on apple's end to get something out sooner than later.

i want the update too..i'm okay with not adding new features for now, but darn the iphone is one of the buggiest phones i've ever used...i mean i underrstand because it's sophisticated, but it's getting very annoying...

Maybe you have a "problem" phone. I have no bugs. My friends have no bugs...???

I have bugs but NOTHING like some of the past "smartphones" I have owned. I have yet to do a soft reset on my iPhone where my WM5 phones it was a daily task.

how many times in the last month have i heard people say apple care or a genius said to plug in your iphone for a sync cuz there is an update either out or coming out very sooon...

although im guessing there will be an update any day nowz

Not sure how many phones you've owned, but I can count 2-3 every year for the past 6 years I've had cell service - and I can go back to 1991/92 for cell service in general. And my iPhone is by no stretch of the imagination even in the top 5 of buggy phones.

My Treo 700W, my first Motorola tri-band GSM on T-Mobile, THOSE were buggy phones. Even my new LG VS8700 from Verizon is buggier than the iPhone. But that's what we get for being early adopters ;)

I'll follow up, definitely buggy but darn, still the best out of all my phones (i've had probably only 7 in my life time)...super happy with my purchase, but like everyone else, always want more for nothing lol

No real "bugs" here, at least nothing I can reproduce, but I have had some crashes now and then from Safari and the iPod.

Still one of the most incredible devices I've ever owned. Although, right now I'd be even happier with it if we saw some new applications and/or widgets sometime soon... preferably my own

There are bugs... This we know. I agree with with the new applications but last week at this time I stated I was bored and ready for new things on my iPhone and people came out out of the wood-work to flame me.

Fact. 3 weeks and no udpates.
Fact. $599 + tax device that doesn't do what a 'FREE' phone can do. Example would be IM. Purchase of other apps for the phone. Ringtones.

No-so-Fact: If rumors hold true and new iPods come out next week then we know from previous experience new iTunes will come out. Perhaps that is why they are waiting.

My guess: iTunes 8. Just a guess. Have my reasons for this guess but it's a guess none the less.

Just my opinion. If you get upset that I'm bored with my iPhone after 3 weeks then that's not my problem. It's my phone. I do expect more :p

The fact that he asked to dock it and try to see if there was an update makes me believe these Apple Care folks know as little as we do. I guess that's Apple culture which can be annoying at some times like this where they don't believe in disclosing any type of info about upcoming updates, etc.

You should return your phone. I would. I have had mine since iDay and it is not in the least bit buggy. It is smooth, fast and seamless. And I am a active power user of all my electronics, constantly pushing all my gear to the limits.

Apple Care techs do see software updates prior to the release. They are tagged Beta. All Apple Care employee's that work directly for Apple connect to a internal server not the external servers that we see.

External (Outsourced) techs would not see this and to be honest with you I'm not even sure if the outsourced techs use Mac's. I'm sure someone knows the answer to this.

The one thing I don't know is if they would see iPhone updates given they come through iTunes not sure what server that connects to.

I've seen two post on this thread now saying that the phone they have is not buggy. Wish I was as lucky as them and so are a few other people I know. Some of the bugs are funny but Safari crashing of late on my iPhone is the most annoying.

Hard to talk someone into a iPhone show them how Safari works and then have to explain to them why it went back to the main screen and that they have to start over.

I'm actually also more interested in a update that'll resolve the memory issues (cause lag and Safari, iPod crashes). New features I can wait for but they should fix the more common bugs asap.

I would agree.

Given it's 3 weeks now and if we gave them a week for loading the phones boxing them up and shipping them to the stores its been 4 weeks.

I didn't expect them to do miracles in this time but would have thought we would have seen some sort of udpate even if it wasn't a comestic change to the OS but a backend fix. That is still why I think we won't see anything till the new iPod's kick out.

Just another guess on my part.
