I have a few questions about apple care


I have a C2D macbook I got it about 5-6 months ago

1. Can I still get apple care?
2. What will it cover?
3. Does it cover my screen?
4. is it worth it? I am on my macbook at least 5-10+ hours every day.

The FAQ linked above answers many questions, but in brief:

Yes, you can purchase it up to one year after purchase. Make sure you also activate it within this time period.

It covers all of the hardware. Note that it does not cover accidental/intentional damage...only failures. See the documentation for more details.

I generally recommend it for portables, as they are a bit more prone to problems, are harder to fix on your own, and are more expensive for Apple to fix.

If you're eligible to buy through the EDU store, you can get better prices. Or you can find it fairly cheap on eBay.

My biggest fears are
the screen, the superdrive, and the battery.
So as long as it covers those things, I think ill probably get it.

Also, don't forget that if you bought it with a platinum and above credit card, you automatically get a free extension of your warranty (covering the exact same things as the original warranty) through your credit card company. AND often you can purchase another three years on top of that for about half of what applecare costs. No free tech support, but other than that it works better imo because unlike Apple, VISA/Mastercard don't question whether you actually have a problem.It also covers batteries and has a no lemon policy which means that if you have to repair three times (not 100% sure about the rules for this) they will replace it with the equivalent new machine.

I've stopped getting applecare and only use VISA extended performance guarantee - it's one of those truly great services that few people seem to know about (maybe that's why it's so great still)

i wish i had thught of that. why didn't you remind me BEFORE i bought my macbook in november. that statement should be in the mr banner!

Sure. They talk about signature cards in this text, but my platinum also has the benefit and I've heard of some gold cards too that have it. You have to check with your bank. I've used this service quite a bit. They're extremely professional and courteous always - and it's hassle-free. They can pay the provider directly, but I always just pay with my card and then ask for a reimbursement, which arrives within days usually. They even call to tell you that they've sent the check, and then later to ask if I got it....


Oh, also remember that you DON'T have to register your product in advance as long as you have the receipt and a copy of your credit card statement. YOu're automatically covered for the second year and can purchase the extended warranty up until the end of the second year.
