Exactly what all does Apple do to the iPad Pros they have on sale as certified refurbished? I’ve heard they replace the screen, battery, etc. Also, they professionally clean the device. Does anyone know of anything else?

If you read the specifics, Apple says that with iPhones and iPads they are thoroughly tested and receive a new battery and a new outer shell. A laptop will probably get a new battery if it has too many cycles . However laptops will not get a new outer shell. The device will come in a plain white box.
If an iPad was returned during the return window and looks new, then that will probably get a cleaning and sent out as a refurb. This policy usually applies to trade in devices.
It can be good or bad. You know how picky Apple people are. It could have been returned for an imagined defect or it could be a real defect that you hope Apple fixed before putting on the store.
I tend to shy away from buying refurbished as I do not want to inherit someone else’s problems.
