Apple charging $40 more for convenience.

Soo I was shopping for a new iMac in the Edu store and stumbled on this. Apparently if you custom configure a 2.93 iMac to fit the exact specs of a 3.06 pre-config it costs $40 less. The one with bolded specifications is the custom config 2.93 (upgraded to 3.06) and the stock 3.06 is unchanged.
I thought this slightly unfair

Even if they are exactly the same, the custom is not returnable, so that to me would be worth more than the $40 savings.
