My brother is a specialist in Macs and somehow he had managed to change the chime to a recording of his kid crying and saying, "I made a poopie in my pants". How the heck did he do that? Is it easy or hard, I'd like to do that!

I remember reading about this a while back and the general consensus was that it is quite difficult to do and should not be done because the number of chimes can actually indicate if your machine has a problem.

I was wondering about the Chimes. I always find myself having to restart the computer in a library or quite public place. Half the time it chimes and half the time it doesnt. Is there anyway just to turn it off or set it to a recording of no noise? Better still just turn it to the very minimum volume setting, it always seems to be very loud and although its only short, its often annoying to me and the people around me.

The best way I find to stop my PC beeping at start-up is not to start it up at all - but for my MacBook Pro - this is NEVER an option - understandably
If you have your computer volume muted, when you restart it will not chime.
Also, I seem to remember reading that you could press and hold the mute button on your keyboard upon startup to temporarily silence the chime (although this did not work with my BT keyboard).
