OK, I am enountering a very odd problem.

I have a 30" Cinema HD Display that connects to a Mac via an Apple Dual DVI adapter which has Thunderbolt 2 and USB. (It needs both connections.)

1) This display functions perfectly with a 2015 MacBook Pro. (No adapters needed).
2) This display functions perfectly with a 2018 Mac mini, using a Thunderbolt C - Thunderbolt 2 adapter. USB connects directly to the computer.

With 2021 MacBook Pro 2021.... can't see this monitor. Display panel doesn't show Arrangement tabs.

Any suggestions?

It's not a Thunderbolt adapter. It's mini-DisplayPort.

What USB-C to mini-DP adapter are you using?

My 30" ACD connects with a male Dual Link DVI into this USB-C adaptor (plus a 2nd small adaptor for the USB cable).

In my case the ACD must be powered on before the 2021 MacBook Pro, otherwise it cuts in and out, so I'm still not 100% sold on it. When it works it's great. I occasionally have to adjust the ACD to max brightness at startup via the side panel buttons.

I have a Cable Creation one that looks identical. It works fine with Intel Macs, but I haven't tried an Apple Silicon Mac (because I don't own an AS Mac). I bought the Cable Creation one simply because it was cheaper.

BTW, @Doug183, you should probably check out the thread below.

My 30" Apple Cinema Display appears to be having USB problems after 15 years. If USB is connected, it might not power on or it may flicker on and off and it may disconnect USB devices that are connected to the hub. My Mac Pro 2008 USB ports may be affected. I had a USB 2.0 hub lying around and used that with one of the ports that still seems to be working.

The FireWire on my 30" Cinema Display never worked (it showed errors in the log when connected) or I haven't tried it since then to see if anything changed since.

You pointed out something I have mis-remembered. On the Mac Mini setup I have a 3rd party USBC adapter that connects to the monitor dual link cable which is a display port and not Firewire . It was so long ago I created the mini set-up and because the 2015 MacBook Pro had Thunderbolt 2 ports, I just assumed (falsely remembered) that adapter on the Mini was also a Thunderbolt 3 --> 2 adapter. Based on your post, it must actually be a USB-C -> Mini display port adapter. All my computers are in different places so I can not swap out parts right now, but I just ordered a new USBC-> display port adapter from Amazon and it will be here tomorrow, and I will report back.

Again Thanks.

Im having to make a decision on buying a new 2021 Macbook pro 14" to replace my 2014 15" MBP which works fine with my 30" Cinema. I have the DVI adapter, I guess that's what it is so am I asking for trouble to try and use that 30" with a new laptop? Or to save money and problems should I think about getting the iMac instead? I really dont want to buy another monitor.

The 30" Cinema Display works fine with M1 Apple Silicon Macs.

You might need to experiment with various adapters, but it will work.
