Apple clearing out MacBook Pro's ready for Merom?

Well to cut a long story short my MacBook Pro (1.83 ghz) has had several problems. I have only had it 6 months and have had 3 issues (battery, hdd, logic board) and I also have 3 other issues pending for an in-store repair (logic board, screen and superdrive). Ok so thats very unlucky, 6 problems in 6 months and Apple customer relations rang me up and offered me a new machine instead of carrying out the further 3 repairs, they said I had been so unlucky and were offering me a new 2.16ghz machine.

OK are they just being genourous and trying to keep me happy (I was fairly happy to just go through the repairs) or are they clearing old stock ready for the merom MBP's? Possibly a bit off both, I am very happy that I am recieving an upgraded MBP, if anyone has any issues with their MBP I suggest you start nagging for a new machine

I think with the numerous problems you've had they are simply doing the right thing for you. Six problems including two logic boards clearly implies you got a lemon of a machine.

Congrats on the new one - that's a hell of notebook to be upgraded to.

Instead of simply giving MBP's away, they'd just sell 'em as refurb. They're not clearing out for Core 2 MBP's.

These guys do the right thing. You got a real Monday Mac , and you should get another. This is why I love Apple. If the slightest thing screws up, they fix it. If they can't, they give you a new one

oh right i see, still awfully nice of them to upgrade it in the process, i mean i'd have been happy with a new 1.83 (although i was quietly hoping for a 2.0 as the 1.83 has been discontinued) but when she said 2.16 i was over the moon, i will now also have a faster cpu, larger hdd and more video ram. very very happy indeed.

A friend had a 12" powerbook that had a few problems, after some faffing around Apple replaced it with a fully loaded 15" powerbook. Which, at the time was quite an upgrade.

Nice to hear a good ending to bad hardware. I will vainly hope they are blowing out the books for Tuesday's announcement of Merom MBPs.
