I am interested in purchasing a Mac, but the only thing putting me off are the prices at the Apple.com Store. Is there another online store one would recommend?

i dont understand what you are looking for.....what is a back?

EDIT: Beat me to it.

nobody can really sell Apple products for more than $5 less than what Apple does. However amazon.com usually has pretty good deals. Unless you're a student...

Alrighty then...that's an easier question to handle. :D

If you don't qualify for any of Apple's discounts like the educational one and you want just a stock configuration with no upgrades, Amazon is often a good choice, as they tend to have $100-$150 rebates on some of the Macs.

Does that give me any special priveleges?

1. apple refurb section offers nice discounts. my iMac 20" refurb is great.
2. many states have a tax free day. check it out on your state and you could save another 5+%.

I've got a buddy who works at prob the largest online mac store, PM me for info

you get a discount on most things on apple.com. its usually around 5%, which is pretty good if you are buying a new computer.

It's actually as high as 10% depending on the item. For example, when I bought my 12" PowerBook, it was $200 off the normal $1799 price (I paid $1599), and that's an 11% discount.

On the right side usually (it moves around, but it's on one side or the other), towards the bottom of the store page, will be a link for educational discounts....

There's probably a 100% discount at a home near you.

If the price of the Mac and stuff is too much at the "Special Deals" section or through education, then theft is your only solution -- which is the only way to really get a good deal on a new Mac.

This sounds really shady... if you're unsure of whether to buy from the site, you could make another post to see if it's a scam. Good luck with your purchase.

There is also a student developer (or developer) discount that might interest you: http://developer.apple.com/membership/ . You have to pay a fee upfront to become a developer, but the discount is great afterwards (students only get the one.)
