Do you guys think Apple will stop producing computers and only make cell phones and ipads?
Until you can make iOS apps on an iPad or iPhone. (Or PC) They need to make Macs, they only dropped the "Computers" from their name because they aren't purely about computers, they diversified. They won't drop Macs entirely. I doubt they ever will.
Why close scope again? The reason for removing the Computer part from Apple was so they could be better placed with consumer electronics.
Why be so tied to the traditional concept of a Desktop metaphor computer? You never know, iOS 8 or 9 could introduce a whole new way of coding for iOS using iOS.
Out of topic but... LOL ... dude, you really have only 3GB of storage on your computer? My G3 had more back in the day I believe haha
What about those rumors about dropping the entire Pro line? I highly doubt Apple will still make towers or even iMacs in the future. The way I see it, they would keep MacBook Airs along with iPads and throw some kind of iOS-like OS on it.
At some point Apple computers as we know them now, will be but a memory. Pushing their "Post PC" Era on us this soon, indicates Apples burning desire to phase out full blown computers that fail to bring in the massive profits of iToyz.
Apple got to be the richest of all, by putting profits over everything else. Having achieved the magic combination for generating more cash than any other American corporation, there's no looking back now.
Is there anything wrong with caring about profits? Is there anything wrong with putting resources behind the most profitable product lines?
No, but to withdraw money from product lines that made a company's name is weird. Apple made all their marketing by tarketing audio/video pros and schools (for the past 15 years or so?...), now they they give those same people the middle finger. Thats not cool at all.

I expect iOS to move to the Macbooks. The Pro Line will be discontinued since development of OSX is too expensive and won't bring enough money in the door (at least not in comparison with iOS devices). They didn't even get 10bit color support done in OS X.
Generally, commercial computing is moving to special purpose computing. Sandboxing everywhere, App Stores which are handled by your system manufacturer, EFI keeping the average user from installing another operating system. It will be the same for Windows, basically.
Apparently you failed to read my post.Is there anything wrong with caring about profits? Is there anything wrong with putting resources behind the most profitable product lines?
No, you still need a Mac to develop for those devices.

If the day comes when computers are no longer profitable, then I'm sure Apple will quit making them. But they still make a profit on their Macs. It's not as big as their profit from iOS devices, but it's not insignificant, either.
