Apple Design - Interesting Article

For those of you that can't see some of the similarities I think some vision correction needs to be in your near future. Talk about ripping off basic designs!

This has been around for a while. What I've always said was that design inspiration has to come from somewhere and while some designs were very close in appearance they were completely different products. It's not like Apple copied designs from the same product from a different manufacturer.

There a difference between inspiration and direct copies. Most of those aren't even the same items. A radio and a computer tower? It's not the same as a company copying your product and then selling the same product.

This. The Braun comparison as been around for years.
 
I think its more that Jonothan Ive took design cues from Dieter Rams as many current designer have.

Regardless if you want to tie to Rams or Braun, clearly apple products show a clear lineage.

Nope. The iPhone app's button shape and colors are clearly inspired by that specific Braun calculator, not an HP or TI or Sharp any other.

Since the Braun calculator hasn't been sold in decades and any design registration would be expired, what could've been a case of design infringement a while back, is now instead called "a homage to the Braun device".

It's all in the timing :)

It's also in the attitude. Fortunately for Apple, Dieter Rams likes that Jon Ive is inspired by his designs.

That simple Rams speaker design has been a popular theme with Ive.

Not only for the iMac, but also for his recently revealed tablet design which was apparently the basis for Apple's "rounded rectangle" patent.

Maybe the opening post originally referred to a Daily Mail article. The Cult of Mac article is from 2012 … there was something similar in 2008, Looks familiar? Apple classics and their 1960s ancestors | Art and design | The Guardian. Or maybe D was the natural complement to A-B-C :)
