My iPad Pro (M4) 11-inch bricks and boots only into recovery mode after hard reset after Apple Devices stops while restoring it to 18.2 and crashes the Apple Mobile Devices service. I have take it to another computer that is not running Windows 11 24H2 to unbrick it. Why?

I have never used Apple Devices app from Microsoft Store and I am running Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019 [1809]

Have you tried installing iTunes on Windows 11 24H2 and use it to perform the restore? If yes, did it also fail?

Below are the links to the executable/non-Microsoft Store version:

https://www.apple.com/itunes/download/win64
https://www.apple.com/itunes/download/win32

I'm guessing it worked on a computer not running Windows 11 24H2 and using Apple Devices from Microsoft Store

Hi, thanks very much for this.

I was having this problem as well.

A clean install worked for me on Windows 11 24H2:
  1. Unplugged iPad, uninstalled iTunes and Bonjour - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6562#reinstall
  2. Restarted PC
  3. Re-installed iTunes via the links above (instead of via Microsoft Store)
  4. Opened iTunes, plugged in iPad, restore worked :)
Cheers

Apple Devices recently updated to 1.5.2.60 but it still does not work on Windows 11 24H2 and still bricks the device into recovery mode.

I had the same problem. The crash is caused by "MobileDevice.dll." Both iTunes and the Apple Devices app use that file and both of the latest versions were crashing.

I downloaded a slightly older version of iTunes (12.13.2) and was able to restore my iPad Pro. I had to download it from a 3rd party site, but the installer is digitally signed by Apple so I wasn't really concerned.

I had to uninstall Apple Devices before iTunes would see the iPad.
