Apple did it right

After reading about the slow Nexus 6 speeds, I read up and learnt about how Apple has implemented encryption and its really neat - dedicated hw memory controller with hw AES and secure credentials.

In comparison, Motorola/Google have a much inferior solution, causing huge delays in app loading, slow boots, and slow performance.

As someone who was going to get a Nexus 6, the reviews and news like this has made me have 2nd thoughts.

There are some things where I think Apple does better than Google. One very trivial one is how e-books flip. I have Moon+ Reader Pro and it gives us both Apple and Google animations. Both are great but one thing I like is you can hold the animation on Apple and see both texts of each pages or flip the corners. I thought it was a bit glitchy as it can flip for no reason but all I did was slow down the speed to 0 and put none in most of the settings.

I guess Apple are like the Los Angeles Lakers and Nintendo to me. For a time, I loved all of them. As years passed, I moved on. But I can respect all their history and accolades they all achieved. I can never buy a Magic Johnson jersey even though I loved him as a player just because I hate the Lakers. But it doesn't mean I can't respect and adore the things he did and still does. Same with Nintendo. Same with Apple. I don't hold too many grudges for any of them because I was once a fan of them all once upon a time...

Read Phil Jackson's Eleven Rings where he did coach the Lakers and my childhood hero, Michael Jordan: The Life by Roland Lazenby where MJ is just as selfish, egotistical as Steve Jobs was. Downloaded G4TV's Icons with episodes about Apple II and NES. Enjoyed them all. Nomore hating. I learned alot from whom I might now consider rivals...

apparently you haven't used iOS8 if that is the bar you are holding Android 5.0 up to.

since I am currently holding a Nexus 5 on Lollipop and an iPhone 6 on 8.1 in both hands right now, I can say that delays in app loading, slow boots and slow performance is not an issue with my Nexus compared to the iPhone.

I guess this is the difference between real world use and what you read on the interwebs.

I really hope Google fixes this issue, assuming it's even fixable. Really poor, poor implementation of encryption, some slow down may be acceptable but this is like getting literally 1/3rd the read speeds, unacceptable.

I don't think encryption is enabled by default on devices upgraded to lollipop, only those shipped with it.

I won't be enabling this full device encryption at this point if it can be stopped. If my gs4 GE suffers from this issue, which I imagine it would.

Hi OP we have a thread in this section criticising Apple and their biased preference for only wanting positive reviews. The same goes for the alternatives section on MR. Only positive Android stuff please regardless of how ironic that sounds. It might influence somebody. Oh what a tease

^^^See...this is what happens^^^ People that do not have Android devices...no interest in Android devices........they come to the Alternative section to put down Android and say how great their Apple devices are. It somehow validates themselves through their idevices.

That pretty much goes for the iPhone section too. Threads like this where somebody is negative is not exclusive to this section, it's unfortunately something we have to live with here. I did think it was funny though that we have a thread that suggests there is not enough negative press for the iPhone yet in this case it is not tolerated because it's a different platform. It is what it is though.

Well....do you have Android devices? It is pretty well known you are a big Apple supporter based on your post history here in the alternative section. there are no Android devices in your sig either.

I have 2 Android devices and use others in exhibitions for work so I do use them and share an interest in them. You also know my Android history prior to having an iPhone too as we have discussed that on various topics in the past. Seeing as you are a poster I have enjoyed discussing with in the past, I'm surprised to see you attempting to embarrass me here.

If you care for my post history you'll see I more often than not defend the iPhone but very rarely ridicule or attack Android as a bad OS. I see negatives for both and discuss them even if I favour the iPhone. I spend more time in the alternatives section these days because sadly the iPhone section is pretty dire. If that hasn't answered your questions I will happily stay out of your way in future and hide you.

Are a lot of reviews showing android devices slow down when encrypted? I've been thinking about encrypting my Note 4, but was worried it would slow down/lag, but I say that from no personal experience at all.

Let me ask what is the purpose of entire phone encryption?

I thought if you activated remote wipe or lock like find my phone it would be kind of difficult to get hold of your data.

If someone like the government or some clandestine organizations want to get your data no encryption will be safe.

Except it is with iOS 8 because even Apple doesn't hold the key to the encryption that it provides (after a restart especially).

The government has publicly attempted to 'shame' Apple for the encryption and they seem quite buttmad about it, so I doubt they've figured out how to do it.

I never believe those uncrackable encryption. Encryption is just to keep out the normal crooks but not all the crooks.

Unless you are hyper paranoid encrypting the whole phone is unnecessary. I thought device encryption was used by apple to keep out the jailbreaker.

Sure all encryption can be hacked. It's just the time it takes.
