Recently i bought a imac 27 inch in a retail store and returned it because of the yellow screen on dvd scratch problems... after that i placed a online order in apple store for imac 27inch and they offered me a airport express for the first problem what i had. this second imac also had noisy screen and dvd scratching problem. i called apple and asked for a refund. they agreed for refund by saying that the airport express is gift and they will refund the entire invoice amount. I agreed for that and felt that apple is compensating the clients for their problems. so i kept the airport express and returned the imac. after a week when i received the refund i found that they have taken money for the airport express. they did not keep their words. when i called back apple and asked about this apple asked for the agent name whom i spoke. i did not remember the agent name who told me that the airport express was a gift. now apple want the airport express back.....they raised an rma for airport express and sending TNT for pickup..

so..watch out...APPLE does not follow what they say....so if possible always you record the conversation with apple agent....

Did you really think they give you an AE as a gift if you return the iMac and ask for a total refund ???
Quite naive ....
The AE was a "gift", a way to say sorry about a faulty product YOU BOUGHT. But if you ask for a full refund, you don't need any gift.

Apple is a business company, after all ....

So what, you blame the customer because he bought a product that was delivered faulty by the company?

If I buy something brand new, I can expect it to be flawless! The only one to blame is the company that sold you that product.
The customer couldn't possibly know that he bought a faulty product.

well said....the imac 27nch scratched my brand new eye tv dvd, offfice 2008 mac dvd and windows ultimate dvd.(and they are all not usable at all)..when i asked apple about this, apple said they cant do anything...

Tip: When dealing with customer service with any large company, keep a notebook with you and write down the date and time of your call, the names of any agents you speak to, their ID #s, and any explanations or promises they make. Also ask if your call has been assigned a case number and write that down as well.

I blame no one.
If the product is defective, I ask for a repair/swap, and a "sorry gift" is welcome.
But if I ask for a refund, well, I'm not eligible for any "gift": I'm a customer no more.

that is very sad .... but once the dvd scratched your first valuable disk, why on earth did you put in another one ?

I understand. You statement above was a little ambiguous. ;)

You're absolutely right in saying that one is not eligible for a gift, but this isn't the first time I've heard that Apple gave someone a gift for a long repair time or something like that.

i came to know about the scratched dvds when the last one failed to read when i used it second time :((

I dont expect a gift for the returned product. It is apple giving that...why deny?-- one more thing is they raised the RMA after talking to me with only 1 item (imac) in that.... :(

you are absolutely right: for a long repair time a "sorry gift" is more than appreciated.

wow, what a pity ... :(
Did you try to ask the software house for a new DVD, sending back the scratched on ?

What, they didn't lose you as a customer after all??

Tom B.
**** happens.
I had a faulty Time Capsule (23 months old, like many others), I lost all my backups (well, most of them: I have another external hdd for a second backup ;) ), I'm not going to buy another Time Capsule, but I'm definitely going to buy another Apple's product ;)

In addition, ask them to email their promises and don't hang up before you have received that email. You really want some written proofs in case the rep has said something that he shouldn't (e.g. in this case). With that the company cannot legally refuse to do it

yep, that's the right thing to do.
Maybe next time ;)

still apple gives gift...

apple promised me that i will have a gift after receiving my MBP even though they have raised an RMA for the previous AE gift...........
:)

Are you just going to give up on getting an iMac?

yes i gave up getting imac... 2 imacs did not go well...same problems...i received my mbp. has to find a external monitor for that.....i know, imac display is awesome...difficult to find an equivalent display with that 27inch size.......

You probably scratched the DVDs yourself by pushing them back into the aluminum when younout them in.
