Why would Apple chop off one of it's legs? The removal of Mac from it's lineup would only result in a quick and sad death.

It's an April Fools joke and not a very good one.

From the article:

“The demand for iPad has been huge. Nothing short of phenomenal,” says Steve Jobs. “We knew iPad was going to be big, but even we didn’t expect this. We’ve already pre-sold two million units, and barely have the stock to cover half of that for launch,” he adds.

I thought jokes had to be plausible to be funny.

Considering computers are 1/3 if not 1/2 of Apple's revenues (don't have the financial statements in front of me) that'd be kinda dumb.

It was on the Internet so it must be true!

On second thought, I don't even believe the part about them dropping the word "Computer" from their name. After all, I read it on a rumors site.

Although they may not be dropping the Mac, it definitely appears Apple Inc. (formerly Apple Computer) has told their computer division (both pro and consumer) to get in the back seat, sit down and keep quiet!

Yeah, I have to keep reminding myself that Apple started out as a computer company.
