I think it's time for me to make the switch. I'm really interested in the new MacBooks and I'm excited about switching and learning a new OS.

One question though: I'm a student, and I'd really like to get in on the iPod deal offered through the American Education Store. Have past back to school sales been introduced in Canada? Should I wait to see if it will be?

I called Apple but they were no help, so I turn to you guys.

You could always take a jaunt down to a U.S. universtiy that is also an authorized Apple reseller, and avoid any tariffs. I suppose that would be wrong to suggest.

I didn’t relies that the “free” iPod offer was for the U.S. only.

My dad was talking to the computer guy (who he knows quite well) at the university that he works at/I'll be attending this fall about getting a Macbook for me. The guy mentioned the deal, saying that they had it last year and sold out really quickly. He told him that he had already ordered piles of extra Nanos to deal with the demand-and told my dad to wait and bring me out to buy it after the deal starts. He said it should start around early July-just after all the high school students finish.

So yes-the deal has been offered in the past to Canadians, and it should be offered again this year. If apple reseller stores (like the one at this university) are already ordering lots of extra iPods in anticipation of this deal, I think it's pretty safe to say it's going to happen.

I already have an iPod (3G one) but my dad is really excited about the idea of getting an iPod of his own (I think moreso than me getting a Macbook!)

I attend a Canadian university, and on the front page of my Apple Education Online Store there is a graphic that says "Use your student discount on a new iPod or iPod nano."

I don't think that the Education Promotions page has been updated in awhile, though...

I'm not sure when this promotion will officially begin for us Canadians, but you should be fine now, since they're practically advertising it online.

In the summer of 2005 the "Cram and Jam" iPod mini special didn't start 'til the end of June in Canada (28th or 29th I believe).

You can always phone Apple Canada's customer service.
They'll always work something out for the customers.
They might just give you the ipod for free since the rebate form are not out yet :D .

I did call them. Unfortunately, all they were willing to do was tell me that if I order a MacBook and if ("with an emphasis on the word if")the deal starts being offered within 15 days I can return the computer for a "nominal 10% restocking fee" and then order another and get the special.

woohoo!

Thanks for all the help guys, I almost bought one a few days ago. I'm glad I didn't!
