Apple Fan at a young age.

Here are two photos I found with reference to Apple computer and myself at a young age. I thought they were kinda cute:

The pictures are kind of small.. I guess I was 9 or 10 years old in the bottom picture, and obviously younger in the top. One computer in the bottom picture was a Duo Dock or some sort and the other was a Centris. Off camera was the Macintosh Classic that I had in the room.

How old were you? cause I started wanting an Apple computer at 10years old... and acutally I never knew why... maybe because I felt they were (are) Different... :D
 
Yeah that beings us to the question for everyone... Just how did you become a MacUser?
 
I loved Apple computers since a kid, one of my neighbours was an Apple dealer and I remember him showing us all an Apple ][.
But I've been an Apple user since about 1993. The first one I bought was:
A 7500 Powermac with a 1GB HD and 32 MB RAM.
 
I was a Mac fan since grade 3 (now I'm second year engineering student). My dad brought home one day a Macintosh LC III with a HUGE scanner (compared to today's standards) and that was the first time I saw a scanner. It ran System 7 and came with a nice collection of games, Hypercard, ClarisWorks (I think that was the name), and Adobe Photoshop 2.5 LE (Limited Edition). It also came with all the manuals for all the software. With all the free time I had, I read ALL the manuals :D :eek:

Ever since, there wasn't another Mac at home. But I kept reading all sorts of Mac news (I started reading Macrumors around 3 years ago). But last summer, I finally managed to get myself an iBook, I was so happy to come back! :D
 
It warms my heart to see my sister happily using my iBook (in sig). Shes 10 and lucky I let her use it. ;) That thing looks huge on her lap! :eek: :D

Heh, almost looks like a 17" PowerBook like that.

I too started early, probably 8-9 I think, though I don't remember when exactly we got our first Mac. I taught myself and the rest of the family how to use our old DOS computer, then again when we updated it to Windows 95, and I remember being shocked at how much easier the Mac was, even though I had learned those Windows systems backwards and forwards at such a young age. I remember my Dad and my Grandpa bringing home our Performa 5215 (All-in-one) and being so glad for it, then gladly getting rid of it when the new iMac's came around (actually we waited for Rev C, but I was still very glad). We've since updated again, to another iMac, even though I know both my Dad and I swore up and down we would never again get an All-in-one after the monitor crapped out on the Performa, and then the CD drive failed in our first iMac. Yet we still have one, and if we replace it anytime in the near future, it will most likely be yet another iMac.

WOW! That iBook looks massive, on her lap! When you grow bigger, thats when you need 17" powerbooks!:D :p

I already converted her..lol. She goes up to my dad and says, "Dad, I want a Mac!" I also converted my dad. I was using it to edit pictures of his motorcycle and he was really impressed with the look and fluid movement and grace of OS X. He was just like, "Wow, I really need to get a Mac."

although I admit the vast majority of my computer use is on PC's I believe the first I time was left alone with a computer and told to go wild was at my uncles on a mac of some kind (probably running os 7 or 8) can't remember my age, but I know it was before this dang-fangled interweb thing.
 
Hmm pretty much because my dad bought a mac way back in the mid 80's, an apple 2 I believe and i used that thing all the way up till 10th grade (2000). Funny how long my family used that as our primary and only computer. I remember my mom telling teachers it wasn't fair to have homework assignments that involved extensive internet use for we clearly didnt have internet lol. Interestingly, I do not mind windows at all. Since I use windows and unix all of the time at school (4th year engineering student), I have come to realize all operating systems have their strengths in some aspect. Funny I probably would still be a windows user if my dad had boughten a pc instead of a mac back in the day.
 
I credit my father with my early interest in computers. My dad has been doing computer stuff since the early days, and he started out with Apple macines. Now I hate to admit but today he is more of a fan of Linux and Windows, rather then Macintosh. However, there is a home video made in 1985 where my father says points to his Apple Poster (Now mine, which some of you might have seen in a previous picture) and says "This poster represents the BEST personal computer on the market". He says times have changed and Apple has gone downhill and he perfers using Linux and would like to fade out Windows use if he had all his software on Linux. Anyhow, we were 95% Apple at our home until the mid to late 90's when my dad started using Windows, but he used the Macintosh still at that point for a majority of the time. I remember drooling over both his G3 Powerbook and his G3 PowerMac while I was still using the Centris. From around 2000-2002 I was 100% Windows (yuck) in 2003 I started using Linux and in the same year I got ahold of this older Powermac. Even during that period of all Windows use, I drooled over Macs any chance I got.

..I often wonder if my dad was a farmer or something else and he hadn't been using computers around me, if I wouldn't be so into computers.

I love wondering about those "what-if's" we encounter in life . . . .
Like what if Bill Gates' mom would have opted for an abortion? Not trying to turn this political, but seriously . . . . What If??!?!?! Would Jobs have a 95% market share over the next closest competitor (Dell?)

The memories come pouring in.... When I was a kid the first computer my family purchased was an Apple IIC ( the "portable" of the time ). I loved playing "Castle Wolfenstein" on that thing (anyone know where I can get Wolfenstein for a G5 ???). Those were the days.

Family moved to PC then I had to fight my way back to Apple.

(Shameless Nostalgia)
I remember going to the computer store and watching dad buy it - the battery pack was HUGE for this "portable" wonder..... The salesman was slumped over as he demonstrated how it could be carreid around (obviously in pain and planning a trip to the chiropractor ). We didn't get the battery pack.
 
The way I first started using them was in grade 1 at school. When my family got a computer.. my parents got a Performa PowerMac. My uncle and cousins used them before and recommended them to my dad. Ever since then I used macs in school up until grade 8 where my highschool is covered in bloated, slow PC's :( Good thing I have my trusty iBook :)
 
I got my first mac last year, but i'm 16 so that's young right? Maybe not. But I remember using macs in elementary school, Kid Pix Studio, zoombinis, fun stuff like that. i think my old school still uses the ones we had then. but the teachers have imac g4s; interestingly i think they minimize the dock so the little chillins cant fiddle with it.
