I like Apple products but I am not a cult follower like many of the people on these forums seem to be.

What I find funny is this...

Apple fans are so against every other product and company that produces competitive products that they jump at the chance to bad mouth the competition, when in fact they should be applauding companies like Google, Amazon, Samsung.

You see if there is no decent competition, then there is nothing to push Apple to provide a better deal to its customers. If Apple continues to reign supreme selling 16gb iPads, then they will never change and increase the amount of storage. If however, other competing companies increase storage and charge less, it will force Apple to follow suit.

Competition between companies is good for the customer. Stop being so ignorant.

Thats pretty much how it is with most products and fans. Chevy guys dont wanna hear about what Ford did "good" and they usually wont acknowlege such things. Im sure the Android forums dont have much nice to say about Apple and iOS. Just the way it is.

That being said, a handful of people are rather obnoxious about it but I just ignore them or laugh at how bad they slobber the Apple knob. Its free entertainment and hilarius how some fringe fans are simply goofy. :D

I dont agree fully, because Apple DOES innovate and move forward whether there is or isnt competition. Just think of the first iphone.... Apple changed the game, fully,

Then think of tablets...

Continue with macbooks. Every second notebook now copies Apple Macbooks, especially the aliminium unibody, keyboard etc.

So yeah, i keep the privilege to say that Samesung and co are two steps always behind Apple and their products cannot be compared to the gold standard. (Yes, gold ... Like the new color war.)

One can disagree or even hate either the pricing or the marketing of Apple but they cannot deny the innovation and the quality of Apple products.

Yes because no brand ever has had this type of following.. EVER. And why is it if you like something it automatically a cult following?

Ford vs Chevy
Coke vs Pepsi
Bud vs Coors
etc

Don't even get me started on sports......
Yankees vs Boston comes to mind, you should check out one of those games

Some people are uneducated upon what makes something actually better and what is opinionated. Some people will find any excuse to be right. It isn't just Apple fans that are guilty of this.

For every pro Apple fanboy willing to evangelise their products and bad mouth the opposition, there is an army of Apple haters ready to come out with the same up garbage time and time again.
The truth is all products and systems have there good points.
In truth though I think a lot of the others are just backwards engendering Apples stuff with minor tweeks.

Look up the word fanatic in a dictionary and in a thesaurus.

The word "fan" originated as an abbrev for "fanatic".

Apple is and always has been a very polarizing company. Driven by Steve Jobs unbridled narcism & the culture he created, many people find that objectionable. Taking a page out of Jerry Garcia's playbook Jobs replicated that same cult like following.

Repeating over and over how superior Apple was and bashing Microsoft over and over, created a new reality for his worshipers. Repeat it enough and it becomes many peoples reality. Jobs did just that and more.

Right wrong or otherwise, it was very successful and still exists today. Passionate emotional people tied to a man they worshipped and his "Magical & Revolutionary" products.

I give the man a lot of credit, look at the billions Apple has stashed all over the globe.

Way to show your age. The Mac Fans started before Steve came back and it all can be traced back to Guy Kawasaki (hint he now works for Google). Hence there are Fandroids everywhere.

Canada EH!!!
I do the research and buy what ever the heck I decide to spend my money on. I don't care what the majority or minority prefer. I buy products that make sense to me, will make doing business easier/more simple, are reliable, and will help me grow my company and increased profits. Period!!! Most if the time these are Apple products. Some times they are not Apple products. Simply bashing Apple products and the people who prefer them is a mindless endeavor. The OP needs to find a better way to amuse him/herself!!

Kids these days!!

People like different things, and people have different financial capabilities.

Calling people mindless because they have different priorities is, in your own words, mindless.

Yes Guy Kawasaki keep the Apple machine alive, he's good at what he does but it still take a Jobs to push it over the top. Apple could use another Guy Kawasaki right now.

In any case he's a smart dude and is an asset to any company.

When Apple was a going to come out with the maps app and it had major issues, people were saying things like:

"They should just stop Maps and focus on what they're good at. Let Google do maps." - This is paraphrased from several quotes

"Apple has 100B in the bank. Why couldn't they have just paid Google and kept Google Maps."

What was wrong with Apple competing with Google in mapping. Wouldn't that keep Google on its toes to make Google Maps better? Is competition bad for the consumer in mapping?

One thing that might contribute to the false impression that Apple fans are "sheep" is that once you start getting multiple Apple devices, you want to get more because they all sync perfectly in the best ecosystem on the market.

Blind, uncritical, emotion based devotion to anyone or anything is, IMO...mindless.

A heartfelt, profound amen to this post. Well said.

Look up the word fanatic in a dictionary and in a thesaurus.

Ah. Fascinating. An extraordinarily interesting footnote. Thank you for drawing my attention to this.....

You're right...but being popular or common does not make it any less mindless...and in some areas, frightening.

Agreed.

Personally, I really rather like a number of Apple products (something I'd imagine I have in common with most members of this forum). I like the fusion of form and function that represents excellent design, the impressive OS, (in the 'real world' I am waging a daily, losing war with the truly awful Windows 8, which is a nightmare when contrasted with Windows 7), and the excellent customer service I have experienced whenever anything went wrong with any of the Apple products I have purchased.

However, I am not blind to the company's little foibles (for example, their use of atrociously treated workers is China leaves me singularly underwhelmed), and frankly, while the late Steve Jobs was undoubtedly something of a genius, to my mind, his extraordinary talent did not give him endless permission to behave badly to those he felt free to treat with contempt.

And yes, the messianic, cult-like fervour which attended the 'Events' is another thing which leaves me cold. In fact, by their very nature, I deeply distrust cults. The willing suspension of disbelief which seems to be the price of membership is something I deem too high a price to pay for entry into the ranks of the elect.

But, but, but: to use the adjective 'mindless' in the thread title? Mindful of the power of language, I am increasingly struck by the intensity of expression online when using descriptive language. Surely, it is enough to suggest that some Apple fans are perhaps, a little too uncritical about the company which designs and manufactures some gorgeous cutting-edge pieces of technology?
