Apple is finally planning a Calculator app for the iPad, over 14 years after launching the device, according to a source familiar with the matter.
It’s about time.
Before the first iPad in 2010, Apple's development team did have an iPad calculator ready to go, but it was just a scaled-up version of the iPhone app. Steve Jobs caught wind of it and quickly nixed it, and there wasn't enough time to design an iPad-optimized calculator before the iPad hit shelves.
Always thought it was dumb to omit a calculator for iPadOS, but iOS and MacOS had calculators? So 14 years later it finally happens.

I mean I get the point Apple's made in the past that a calculator app on an iPad sized screen isn't the best UI experience, but it's become almost a joke at this point. Glad they're finally caving in and releasing one.

That is incredible news. Finally we're gonna see what they've been cooking for 14 years, after they just got multiple timers working!

In a time where people are talking about AI advancements, augmented reality gear, and quantum computing, I gotta say... Apple putting a calculator app in the iPad might be the biggest tech news of all. 🤯

It's interesting that they have finally "cracked it", but still somehow can't ship it with the brand new iPads they are announcing in May.

Steve Jobs turning around in his grave.
Well he’s to blame for why there was no iPadOS calculator you know?

If it were back in the days when there was a live audience, the audience would have fainted and everyone would get up and dance around the hall, and Tim would be crowned king, and he would be carried around while people messed up calculations, as Tim saw calculated on his iPad Pro M3, while he shouting "calm now calm now - there are enough calculations for EVERYONE!"

Everyone would be able to remember what they were doing the day Apple launched their iPad calculator.
