Yeah(1), good luck(2) with that*. :D

On my 1.83, fully charged, latest firmware, brightness = one bar, bluetooth/airport off and running one or two applications, i've solidly gotten about 4.5 hours.

EDIT Calibrated too.

Having owned my MBP about a month I re-calibrated a few days ago and am now getting a solid 4 hours with one bar backlight, AP and no BT.

How is that off? No bluetooth, which most people don't use on laptops. Airport is on, and screen is dim. Screens are still very visible at one bar.

That much is very true. I'd be happy if the screen dimmed a little more than it does!

Ok. Thought AP was off. Still who uses laptop on one bar for screen? Unless the battery light is flashing and its getting ready to shut off. Then I turn it to one bar.

These battery ratings by apple are retarded and should be illegal. Showing us the battery life on one bar with no bluetooth or AP and at idle is a joke. They need to show the battery life of the computer with full bars on screen, AP and Bluetooth turned on period. Ofcoure they can add this in the battery life paragraph next to the bullcrud 5hrs statement.

I always use my computer with one bar while i am at school. Hell once i had my computer at 44% on accident for a 3hr class and left my computer on 0 screen bar, and could still see and my computer was at 23% at the end of the class.

If you want to use your battery life to the max.. You'll turn it down to one bar.
In low light situtaitons.. Why would you want to have it a max? Your just putting strain on your eyes.. Many ppl including myself turn it down to max when i need to prolong my battery life... That goes with any laptop

I see from your sig that you are on a PowerBook. While I agree that my PowerBook is on the brink of usability with only one bar in screen brightness, you must remember that MacBook Pro screens are substantially brighter.

I just want to know the battery life with a dvd with screen on full brightness and sound about 40%. Will I get about 3hrs? (watching stuff like King Kong)

I doubt it. I'd estimate about 2 hours with full brightness and dvd going.

It's not really recommended to watch a movie on a portable without having the power adapter plugged in....especially when it's King Kong...the longest movie you could have possibly picked.

i picked king kong as an example because it was long. but now days, move movies are 2+ hours. so maybe if I turned down the screen to 80% brightness it might make it. :)
btw, its a MOVIE. you would want it on max brightness. Did you know in the us, about 80% off all theaters are using a lower wattage bulb than what is recomended, just to save on bulb life? Granted it looks ok when watching, but thats not how the movie makers wanted to you to see it. Kinda like making a movie in THX only to listen to it in 5.1 surround. Its almost the same, but not. Yet if they didnt tell you, 95% of the people would've never had known they wern't listening to THX.

Me. :) Especially with this MBP...

Ditto.

On the couch/bed with the lights dim/off I cannot use my MBP without the screen down to one bar. It's just too bright! :)

I'm in the middle of calibrating my MacBook Pro's battery at the moment... been on battery for over 3 hours now :D screen at full brightness, airport on, iTunes playing the tunes, and Photoshop and Dreamweaver running as I'm trying to get some work out the way, reading for new projects next week.

Battery monitor says I've got 45 minutes left too. :p

hmm. I always find it weird how the 17" PowerBook can have longer battery life than the 15"... They have different capacities, I know... 4 hours is not bad, but it would be better if it had like 5+, even on the 15" one...

I would think that if you rip the dvd to the hard drive with something like mac the ripper first you would get better battery life out of it, no need to spin up optical drive

60/4.5 = 13.3

68/5.5 = 12.4

Umm, shouldn't those numbers be the same? To me that seems like the 17" screen, and the rest of the components in the 17" version draw less power per hour than the 15"....

Unless I'm on crack or something.
