So the new two week delay as reported here and cnet and several other sites (including the apple store) can't be denied.

And computer world is reporting that resellers are being told it is in response to display issues. http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9142199/Graphics_issues_force_Apple_to_delay_iMac_orders_resellers_report

I've been waiting since October here in little New Zealand, but I for one will be glad to wait another two weeks instead of having to return two or three machines like some members on here. The failure rate has been shocking, and hey maybe they'll be forced to put something better than the 4850 in (though I do doubt it).

So the new two week delay as reported here and cnet and several other sites (including the apple store) can't be denied.

Of course the 2-week shipping time can't be denied – it's there for all to see on Apple's iMac page.
The report is rubbish. Read it and it is full of contradictions.
A two-week delay for re-sellers it says. Big deal. Apple is giving priority to its direct Apple Store customers.
Is this supposed to be information:"Pronych said he had been told by some users that Apple had pushed back the projected ship dates for their already-ordered iMacs".
Who are "some users"? How many? Three? Two hundred? The writer switches between dealers and users as it suits him. Who is he talking about here – Apple Store buyers or Mac Connection buyers? It's tripe reporting and meaningless. I've seen no deluge of posts from Apple's direct customers saying their ship dates have been put back. Many are reporting their December orders are shipping early.
This comment makes no sense either:
"Some U.S. resellers were out of stock. A Mac Connection sales representative, for instance, said that the e-tailer's next shipment of 27-in. iMacs was expected Dec. 18. "I don't have any information regarding a reason for the delay," the representative said in a live chat Saturday."
What is that supposed to mean? If he's receiving his shipment on the 18th, where is the two week delay? Is he saying the so-called two week delay has already been and gone? Otherwise he'd see nothing till the New Year. In the meantime, have Apple Store buyers not been receiving their iMacs? Sure they have. This forum confirms that.
There is nothing remotely unusual about shipments taking longer over the Christmas and New Year period. All the article seems to confirm is that it is a lot quicker to order from Apple than from someplace like Mac Connection. And those third party outlets are only too happy to say there's a general delay, because otherwise their customers will go elsewhere.
The article is balderdash.

Don't get me wrong, it's pretty obvious to anyone with half a brain that Apple is playing a little dirty with the resellers and holding them out. Although if the amount of returns and rejects wasn't as high I guess resellers might have had stock by now.

But you can't blame me for day dreaming that Apple was not verging on anti-competitive practices with the resellers but that they were also seeking to remedy some of the issues reported. And you can argue that only people with problems are posting or that a few rejects are normal - but that doesn't quite cut it when some forum members have gone through several machines with the same issues.

Guess I was just being hopeful...

+1

its a poor attempt to confuse people into thinking that the delays put on resellers are due to video card problems. Notice how they never mention that online orders were or are being delayed? The cover up begins...

That story is rubbish and seems like 100% speculation. Is Apple delaying the iMac for 2 weeks, or until it figures out the problem like the very first sentence says. Two completely different things right off the bat. 2 weeks (14 days) is only 4 days longer than the previous 7-10 day mark. Seems like they are just getting a bit backed up since they have to build 5 iMacs to get 1 good one.

Well people who have had ordered on the 7th, 8th, and 9th( when it went to 2 weeks) just had theirs ship. And my 5th order went to Prepared for Shipment.

I don't think they have been delayed. I just think Apple made it say 2 weeks to say there is no guarantee that you'll have it by xmas.

What is the failure rate? Do you have any idea? A few perfectionists on a forum doesn't equal high failure rate. Squeeky wheels is my speculation.

726 reported to that one dude. Granted there have been thousands sold (27" core and i combined), but since it most appears to be the quad core versions and/or those with the ATI graphics cards its still a huge amount considering not everyone that had an issue will have reported it and alot of people are just living with the yellow tinge.

"But it's just a tinge get over it!!" Doesn't wash, when the imac is worth as much in cash as 2 similarly (though granted no exact) spec'd pc machines you expect a bit better than a yellow fricken screen.

Just because a few fan boys on here refuse to admit apple would ever do anything wrong doesn't mean they haven't messed up.

And Apple claiming a delay but still shipping would seem more like they were clearing out stock held (outside of the factories) as opposed to not having enough to ship... what with them shipping and all.

Having said all of this I do realise at the same time Apple is screwing over the resellers on purpose and I fully don't blame them, I would too!

... when the imac is worth as much in cash as 2 similarly (though granted no exact) spec'd pc machines you expect a bit better than a yellow fricken screen.

The iMac does not cost anywhere near as much as "two similarly spec'ed PC machines" ... it may well cost as must as two garbage-quality, low-end, no-name PC machines, but then you get what you pay for. No other company makes an all-in-one desktop computer that comes even remotely close to being "similarly spec'ed" to a 27" Core i5 / i7 iMac.

Actually I paid $3400 NZD for my i5 Imac (still waiting)
I got a pc quoted from the guys down the road for my mate (seen several of their machines, our church uses them, and a couple of my mates have systems built by them for his audio engineering, I was too busy to build it myself). It was $1200 with a 24" monitor twice the hard drive space and a proper 4850 in it. I have personally built a handful of pcs, two of which are still in use years after I built them (one is like 9 years old) meanwhile I have seen dozens of friends brand name pcs die in-explicitly in the same timeframe so sometimes brand names aint best.

Actually I was exaggerating because before I decided on the Imac I did price up a pc with a 27" monitor, similar spec'd (albeit a better graphics card) and worked out that I would have enough money left over to build another pc with a 21" monitor as well (similar to the low end imac). Lenovo, HP and Dell all have "usable" all in one units. Keep in mind that brand name pcs use much lower quality components than one can actually buy to keep costs down, yes even Apple...

However when it came down to it, I just missed osx something chronic and I will admit that I am a bit of a fan boy myself, but I like to think I'm not loyal to complete blindness. The 27" quad Imacs are by far the best machines in my opinion, they are just so damn cool, when they work. All I am hoping is that all the kinks are worked out when I get mine and I don't mind waiting a few more weeks to get it.

But don't go claiming there are no problems, they are there, they are real and there are far too many of them for it to be acceptable, besides when did we start accepting that a $3400 computer might turn up dead?

So assuming this isn't just an excuse to the resellers lets hope this is a good thing!

Excellent and I hope it's living up to your expectations as I have no doubt it will.
I stupidly purchased through a reseller (who had the other 27" in stock almost straight away so I had no idea this would haven to the quads) and I also live in New Zealand which counts against me.

I ordered mine on November 27th., and it was shipped on the 30th.

Not just that - You can't even buy a display like that anywhere else.

You're comparing Apples and lemons ... as before, no company yet makes a 27" all-in-one desktop computer, so you have absolutely nothing to compare the iMac to that even remotely has similar specs. (As for those people who claim they can build their own Windows PC cheaper, then I'd love to see the hidious mess they make trying to create an all-in-one computer!)

As for the HP and Dell all-in-ones, they are slower, smaller, don't have in-built webcams, etc., etc. and yet are not that much cheaper than the better iMac ... plus one is a Dell and they both use Windows!!

You may as well complain that Ferraris and Rolls Royces are too expensive because Tato in India can make a car for $2000. They all have four wheels and an engine, so they must be the same.

Believe me, I've done this comparison before (as have numerous others), and when done properly you discover it's a myth and that Macs are NOT that more expensive than Windows PCs ... in fact they're cheaper by the time you add in all the hassle of dealing with viruses and malware.

Even if Macs were more expensive, I'd rather pay more for a computer that does what it's meant to rather than pay peanuts to the elephants and be stuck with a pile of crap. Plus, with the recent-ish rather large price drop we've had in New Zealand, Macs are even better value than they were before.

This is false

The delays have nothing to do with apple fixing anything. New iMacs are still shipping out. Mine just went to prepared to ship status.

If there was a shutdown mine would have been effected. Maybe due to demand maybe they are testing more thouroughly.

i honestly hope they are fixing whatever is wrong with the imacs. there is definitely something wrong with some of them. Sure there are almost always going to be some hiccups with new technology, but when many different sources point out very specific issues, im sure the company will try to fix the issue before sending out more defective units.

Apple isnt perfect, though many fanboys may disagree, but if anything, i like companies that can admit they had issues and work on resolving them asap, as opposed to companies that sweep things under the rug and pretend all is well.

A) No your right it is the best all in one
B) I was talking similar spec'd pc, although if the box was under the desk and you got a nice enough monitor you could have a hell of a monster pc with superior components in speed and quality to that of the imac
C) I've never had any problems building pcs or with viruses, I am however a qualified computer tech so I guess I can't speak for everyone, obviously a all in one unit would be a hell of an undertaking (might an interesting little project!!)
D) @ Trollied - actually you can, but taking the price of the monitor into consideration my monster pc would have to be neutered to fit the budget lol, so good call!

I have had pcs at home for years, before that I had a DV400 imac, 6400, lc3 and an apple 2.

Quality these days is no longer Rolls Royce vs Tata, its more like Lexus vs Toyota, still more style and a nicer overall feel but a lot of shared components. And with windows 7 ripping Os X off so much you'd have to be blind to claim Apple computers are 1000x better, especially considering all the current issues, not to mention the massive recalls the g5 imacs had and the exploding iphones and nanos.

In saying all of this I'd still rather drive a lexus vs a toyota (even if they are basically the same company and the same thing in some cases) for the extra trimming and style, I guess I was just being hopeful that Apple might have been taking action on the reported issues and ensuring mine would be problem free :D

Sorry if I have offended anyone.

@Jimkirk - Here's hoping we both get trouble free machines!!! best of luck.
