Apple Financing Gotchas for New Mac Pro Orders

So I ordered a new Mac Pro early this morning (Base config with 16GB of RAM and 512GB flash) and paid for it with the 18 month no interest financing option...

Well just found out that if the device does not ship within 30 days, I do not get the no interest financing!! Apparently the deal is only for charges posted to the credit card account from the Apple Store within the first 30 days of applying for the credit. Since Apple does not charge you until the unit ships, you run the risk of losing out on the no-interest financing! :(

Just a word of warning to others since I was not aware of this! Here's hoping that my Mac Pro ships by 1/18/14!!
 
I'd say you have a strong case to ague against them if it happens. They shouldn't offer it in the checkout if they can't fulfill your order through no fault of your own.

I'm hoping to avoid that argument altogether... Credit card companies are less than pleasant to deal with :(
 
Interesting, I also used the financing, thanks for the tip. I'll just py it off if that is the case.

However how can they do this if it doesn't charge until it ships nice your not using any money? Obnoxious.
 
FYI - I was just able to get a hold of a customer service rep at Barclays (the company who handles the financing) and they stated that they will add a note to my account to extend the promotion past the 30 days due to the computer taking longer than expected to ship...

I would recommend anyone who financed to call Barclays ASAP to add the same note to your account.

OK say it ships after 1/17/14 (30 days, Friday). You can't change the credit card it seems from the Apple page. But you can't pay it off because it hasn't charged yet. So does Barclays have some way of hitting you with a charge, even if you pay it off immediately?

And what about the folks buying this morning where the ship date is February? They have guaranteed interest.

Where are the terms that say this? This is really fishy.

If a partial order that is shipped and billed to your account is an amount that is less than $1599 then your account will not initially be given the 18 month promotional deferred interest offer and instead your initial statement will reflect the promotional offer described above for a transaction that is less than $1599. Barclaycard will monitor your account and will aggregate the total dollar amount spent at www.apple.com, Apple Retail Stores or 1-800-MY-APPLE within the first 30 days of opening your account. If the total amount is $1599 or more, you will receive the 18 month deferred financing promotional offer on all qualifying Apple purchases. If the total amount is greater than or equal to $499 and less than $1599, you will receive the 12 month deferred financing promotional offer on all qualifying Apple purchases. If the total amount is less than $499, you will receive the 6 month deferred financing promotional offer on all qualifying Apple purchases. The adjustment(s) will appear on your 2nd or 3rd billing statement.

But this is irrelevant now since Barclays seems willing to extend the terms if you call them and ask them to place a note in your account so no biggie :)

I called Barclays and she was nice. Was surprised about that, but reassured me that wasn't right. She put a note on the account, and said that I need to keep an eye on it. Since it hasn't charged she can't do anything about it yet, but if the automatic system kicks in give them a call and they'll manually reverse it.

Good to know - will keep an eye on it.

Man I feel bad for those people who don't realize the promotion may not kick in automatically and get hit with 22% or more interest. But sounds like they are willing to work with us which is a good thing!
 
I ran into a similar issue a while back when I ordered a computer and the then-new Thunderbolt Display.

It took a couple months for the Thunderbolt Display to ship so it wasn't associated with the original order. They started charging me interest on the display and I wasn't getting the 0% promo for as long as I expected.

I called and explained what was going on and they simply fixed it. Reversed the interest charges, extended the promo, etc. They were really easy to deal with.

Since they promo is for "new customers only" and I already have 2 accounts with them, I didn't pursue their financing on the new Mac Pro -- but I suspect they would have found a way to make it for for me if I had.

This seems like they would extent the promotion as long as you have an open order with Apple. I don't recall this being an issue when people where hit with the long delays when ordering the Mbp first came out.

Agreed - they seemed very nice and cooperative on the phone. :)
 
Mac Pro arrived today and when I called Barclays, they had already adjusted my account :)

Can't complain about that!
 
i ordered the nMP and have a 'February' ship date. I ordered late morning the first day available and immediately called Barclay's and they 'assured' me that ship would not impact the financing deal. We shall see.....i'll update post when my beast shows up.
 
thats incorrect information

if you're using the financing option, the credit card company is well aware of how apple does business and knows apple does not charge until shipment is ready and shipped, i ordered my new mac pro dec 26. and have extended my 30 day promotion twice already, just explain to them the reason you bought this was to use the special financing and they will adjust, my new promotion time period ends february 15th, i was told if item still hasn't been shipped by then i can further extend promotion until item is shipped

For those who are in the same situation.

I called Barclays just before my 30th day so they have a note on my account with my order number. My guess is they would've fixed it after the fact if I called, but I like the idea that they have a record of the order before the 30 day window.
