It was called Pippin, it sucked, no one supported it, and it bombed miserably, save for being used in some dedicated kiosks (I think McDonalds or something, or was that the CDI), and having nothing but hentai games come out.

Hentai is fun and all, but it cant save a console. :p

I think it'd be a handheld. Considering the saturation of the iPod, surely a small tweak here and there would be all it takes to make it a killer mobile gaming platform, with the usual benefits of the current (or future!) iPod capabilities.

Given the abysmal gaming platform that is the Mac... I doubt it.

I dream of the day top notch releases hit OS X and Vista at the same time. Native releases mind, not this emulated wrapper crap from EA.

umm

I don't think they will ever come out with that, will decrease the sales margin.

If you read the article Apple didn't even support it. Bandai released it (prolly why most of the games were Hentai) and it was more spread in Japan and only very little in the US.

Late starter (developed in 1990 and not released until 5yrs later by Bandai) so yah in 95 who could compete with the big namers at that time in regards to game consoles. None, just like none would really compete with the 3 dogs now. MS made a gamble at the console world and it payed off. Going against the 2 dominating companies (Ninento and Sony) one of which has almost gone bankrupt a couple times, payed off for them. I don't think a 4th would ever make it in todays market unless they REALLY had something unique and in that area I think Nintendo has that uniquiness nailed down.

Only other thing to expand on would be VR. I think "add-ons" or Accessories in conjunction with the software would handle that in at least the PS3 or XBox so that would probably be the best direction if Apple were to get into the market and just make an Add-on to the existing systems.

I am getting a Mac Mini soon. Not only will it connect to my the headless file storage PowerMac to access movies, etc, I am going to put emulators on it. SNES, NES suppose to work.

why do think b/c apple failed at the pippin, they cant get into console gaming??? first of all the pippin was pre-jobs. and im sure the pippin wasnt apple's proudest product. i am sure apple will make game console soon, mark my words.

Apple may find a few problems releasing a hand-held console.

The Sony PSP has many nice titles like MGS for it, while the Nintendo DS has innovative gameplay with its 2 screens and stylus.

Unless Apple can convince many developers (or allow them) to develop games for its console, or create unique gameplay using touch screen elements (which the DS already does in a way), I don't think an Apple handheld console would ever take off.

Well, Apple certainly doesn't seem very interested in making their existing Mac lineup better-than-average gaming machines, so yeah, it's hard to see them actually trying to enter the console market.

iPhone, iPod touch all allow pretty interesting games, especially with the motion sensor in the iPhone, some games with motion are quite fun.

(The iPhone with Installer App allows many games to be playable on iPhone. iPod touch was recently enabled by hackers to install additional apps.)

For example, does not incorporate motion sensor, but the free Lights Out works out the brain:
