According to a 45 minute phone call with Apple support.. they no longer support faces in the Photo's App.

Brian, who left me on hold while he escalated it to Sr. Support told me that the new Photo's app does not support the ability to link a face to your contacts, so you cannot get iMessage or Facetime to show a linked photograph of the persons face. He also went on to tell me that Apple suggest you use iPhoto instead but apple does not support that application any more either.

Seems that Apple likes to take away functionality in the name of progress too.

I've found a solution to let you use a photo from Photos in Contacts, though it's a tad silly of Apple to miss this.

Open Photos and find whatever photo that you'd like to use. Once you've found it, select it and press Cmd+C to copy it.

Now open Contacts and find the contact that you wish to assign photo to. Double click the contact, this will open the contact in a new window. Now click Card (in the Menu Bar) and then Choose Custom Image. Press Ctrl+V to paste the image and voila!

It is worth mentioning that after clicking Choose Custom Image, there is a 'Faces' option that appears to be pulling images from somewhere. I say 'somewhere' because everything seems to be out of order and recent tags that I've made in Photos are not showing up (nor do I have iPhoto installed).

On newly-downloaded 10.4, it worked perfectly for me. I was able to click on edit on an existing contact photo, click on faces, and all the photos tagged for that contact showed up. I went to iMessages and the new photo was there.

Weird. I was able to repro roadkill401's problem; Contacts doesn't give me the option to add/edit the contact photo when in "edit mode" as it did under previous OS versions.

Ok, on further testing I found something interesting...

If I edit a contact stored in iCloud, I'm able to edit the contact's photo. If however I try to edit a contact stored on Exchange (can someone on Gmail try to repro?), I'm not. Oddly I can still edit the Exchange contact's photo on my iOS devices.

Yes. it seems the only going solution for me is to do all contacts on my iPad and then re-sync the iPad back to my iMac. So my $3600 machine can't do simple tasks that my $260 ipad can do.

It's working perfectly for me. I've just added about 250 faces over the past hour and it links fine with my contact entries.
