Apple gets antitrust investigation opened against Samsung in Korea

"There’s a new development happening on in South Korea on the legal battlefront. The country’s top antitrust watchdog, the Fair Trade Commission, has opened an investigation into Samsung’s alleged anticompetitive practices.

According to the Korean Maeil Business Newspaper, the FTC commenced the investigation based on a complaint from Apple. The Cupertino-based company claims that Samsung is abusing its dominant position in the industry, namely its patents concerning 3G technology."​

There is more than just Apple being monopolistic.

Compared to California Court verdict, S. Korea ruled somewhat against Apple. Having Samsung counter-suing Apple with FRAND patents, it is rather odd the Court of S. Korea can simply determine infringement of 3G technologies. This is, in fact, because in S. Korea, they (as I am korean-american) lack anti-trust law in general.

It isn't that they don't have anti-trust law. They do. But thing is, FTC has so much little control; meaning, worst monopolistic business would get is being charged the fine of $ 0.1 million.

So practically speaking, even if Apple can prove Samsung's monopolistic practice in S. Korea, not much will change.
