Hi.

I want to upgrade my Mac Mini 2011 with a SSD. What about the Apple Hardware Test? Will I still be able to run it after I installed Mountain Lion from scratch?

Yes... just hold down the "D" key when booting and it will look for the hardware test on your drive and if it is not found your machine will download it from Apple over the Internet and run the test.

Interesting. My old Macbook (Early 2009) does not perform the AHT even if it is connected to the internet.

Once downloaded... Will it be saved somewhere or is it just temporarily started?

It needs to be one of the 2010+ models that is capable of Lion/Mountain Lion Internet recovery. Older machines like your 2009 will still need to use the old boot install DVD.

I don't know the answer to your second question (if it is saved).
