My Late 2012 mac mini has been acting weird lately. I get a quick flash of the random spinning beach ball just from moving the mouse cursor on different webpages including macrumors forum. Not sure if this is related to the maverick update ?. I never noticed this with mountain lion, or if the apple stock 8GB ram or SSD is about to take a dump ? Can you still do the apple diagnostics or hardware test without the install disk ?

I tried a computer restart holding the D down while the mac mini restarts but the hardware test screen never started.I have apple care but unfortunately I don't have any apple stores near me to have them test it.I have my system backed up daily with carbon copy cloner and time machine in case anything happens. Any help or advice appreciated !

Got the AHT to run and no problems were found.Opened disk utility ran verify & repair disk S.M.A.R.T status verified. Still seeing the spinning pinwheel at times......

Not sure if this is the case for you but normally when that happens on my iMac it's because the hard drive is almost full

As mentioned above, check if your disk is full, and free some space.
Try running the OS X maintenance scripts with the Terminal.
And sometimes is the Adobe Flash player messing around.
Try with other browsers and compare.

I ran the apple hardware test, doing the extended test and it didn't pick up any problems with the hardware, luckily the diagnosis they have in apple store works better as it picked up fault with the graphics card !
