Apple Has the i7 Mac Mini In Stock

Just picked up 2. This is unprecedented. Usually they only show up in the refurb section every few months for a few minutes before someone buys them. These are brand new. Wonder where this new stock is coming from.

My guess is these are NOS that were held back for some reason, maybe AppleCare replacement units, etc. I picked up two as well.

I'll update with what I receive. There have been reports that people are receiving models with upgraded RAM as well as some with SSDs (yes, multiple factory SSDs).

Weren't those only for refurbs?
 
Now, for $699 + tax can anyone here tell me how in the world that is worth buying? I know its quad... but the price is just too much for what you get.

I saw these when they were in stock thanks to Slickdeals but declined to buy. 4gb ram and 1tb 5400 RPM....

The hell? Youll spend at least another $100 getting these to a usable point. Some new ones on ebay recently sold for $725.

Whats so special about this? Its certainly not a money maker and you could get a base quadcore on ebay for less.

From what I understand, that was for "new" clearance ones as well.

They still sell for a nice premium on eBay when new. Always gotta be someone who rains on the parade....

Not that I saw. I bet youll have trouble getting $900 and then there are the ebay/paypal fees, which if you dont have a store will be 10%+.

An official Apple desktop PC, with official support for OS X and for Applecare, that fits within a small-form-factor space and sports a quad-core i7 processor and upgradeable RAM. Because of Apple's design decisions, it is literally impossible to get a current Apple PC that packs this much processing power into this small of a space.

So yeah, I'm sure there are quite a few people who see this as special. (Perhaps stunts like this can show Apple that there are people out here who see it as special too, when these old machines get snapped up so quickly.)

I bought and sold these model quad-core units for most of last year and it was easy money..... and the prices skyrocketed around the holidays. I had a 2 of the CTO 2.6 quad-core units sell for over $1350. There is still a demand, but I agree that it has dropped off significantly over the past 6 months. I personally own two 2.3 ghz models, one I use as my dedicated PLEX server and the other is part of my home theater. The benefits of the older models (user upgradable memory, quad-core processors, quad-core processors) were pretty significant. Most of my buyers were planning to use them as plex servers - small, compact size, multi-core performance is huge for processor intensive jobs like video transcoding.

I still think they are a good value, especially when you drop in an SSD, 16GB of RAM. And think....these will probably have better multicore performance than the next mini upgrade (whenever it might be) unless quad-core processors are brought back.....

Mac mini with Quad-core and upgradable RAM? Can't have that!

These days, you have to pay Bean Counter CEO Tim Cook $1799 for the 27" iMac to get the same liberty.

Comparable? Well CPU wise I dont think thats possible.

BUT, you can easily get an 8gb, 256 PCI-e SSD 2014 model for $600 with over 2 years applecare.

I mean really, unless you absolutely NEED quad core this isnt a good deal because you WILL be upgrading the ram and HDD on that 2012 model + paying tax. Just not financially what I would consider a decent deal.

Having seen what these go for on eBay I do not have faith that anyone could turn a profit worth the time and effort.

And you can never upgrade the RAM on that device, nor will it be at all easy to upgrade the SSD.

The 2012 Mini is the last Mac I've really been interested in. The hardware limitations on modern Macs are so great, I don't really see the point anymore; OS X is good, but not that good. Personally, I'm moving back to Linux PCs.

2014 spec'ed the same as the 2012....$1,228 before taxes....
2012 - $699+$50 for 16GB of Crucial - $749 before taxes



GeekBench 64-bit Multi-core
2012 (2.3) - 11690
2014 (3.0) - 7106

Guess it's worth the additional $500 for some PCIe based storage....not. Not to mention that 1866MHz RAM will run at native speeds in the 2012.
