It should be interesting to see iPhone 14 demand over time. It's obvious most people buying iPhones on release would go for the Pros.

Is this not just because Apple overestimated the demand for the 14 and underestimated the demand for the 14 pro? Has the market overacted?

Just saw that. Not surprising. The iPhone 14 (not pro) is not a big update and still uses the old processor arch. The bad thing is it is usually the volume leader, and the higher price Pro lags behind. This gives Apple too much stock of the model people don't buy, and too little stock of the model people do buy. Opps.

Looks like they underestimated the looming recession, and how attractive the feature gap between 14 and Pro are to the remaining buyers.

My SE2‘s battery was toast and the back was broken. I reluctantly upgraded to the iphone 14. It’s fine as phones go but kind of boring in that it looks exactly like my wife’s iPhone 13 and my daughter’s iPhone 12. Combine boring product with a recession and I’m not surprised sales aren’t booming. And the iPhone 14 Pro? Too expensive IMO.

I wonder what the data looks like in Apple HQ. If it's more people buying the Pro models this year, because they're avoiding the 14. Or if the Pro sales are roughly the same as last year, and the 'perceived' shortage is from supply chain issues.

Could it be that the 14 was not that huge of a leap forward ?

Could the 14 have been labelled as 13s ?

I hope Apple would learn from this. They screwed iphone 14 pro max launch so bad. I don't know how much loss would wake them up from their lofty laurels but yea, best time to buy some Apple stocks when it hits rock bottom below $100 a share in January. And this is not a one time thing. They've been screwing up the shipping issue from China since 2016, maybe further. Production of the current year iPhones are done at least 2 to 3 months out from launch date. They need to learn to not ship everything last minute. Especially when it comes from China --- China needs to go through Korea (Chinese customs and then Korean customs), then Alaska (US Customs) traditionally, but today I saw some flights directly from HongKong/Shenzhen China to Alaska, skipping Korea. If they like to play last minute, they need to ship directly from the warehouse (Zhengzhou) to Louiville with customs waived and/or a bulk custom process instead of custom for each individual phone.

I'm very happy with my Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, but S22 Ultra is ugly boxy, I predict S23 Ultra will also be boxy ugly, so that's why I am switching to Apple. Otherwise, I would've stayed with Samsung, far more superior camera, camera features.

But the “s” would imply faster speed, which it didn’t get because it’s using the same old processor. More like 13.1
There is some notable advantages and upgrades. For example the iPhone 14 has proven to be cheaper and easier to repair according to Ifixit and apples out of warranty(no AppleCare) cost. So on the iPhone 13 if you replace the back glass it’s $449. The cost from Apple to repair the back glass on an iPhone 14 is $169. That’s close to a $300 difference. Also you get the updated Bluetooth 5.3, QUALCOMM modem X65, an increase of 2 more GB of ram, crash detection, satellite 🛰 communication, a bigger battery, auto focus selfies, better aperture in the main lens, cinematic video in 4k, action mode in video, and probably a couple things I missed. For the 100$ price difference on a new 13 vs 14 I’d take the iPhone 14 all day long.

From what I saw over the summer, it wasn't a huge upgrade so I upgraded from two XS Max to two 13 Pro Max phones in August. I know many other people did as well over the last two months.
