Anyone care to speculate when we will see this? I hope it happens before the next Mac Pro update. It would be great to see this released soon as it's clear the new iMac will be using mobile HD6xxx series cards when they're refreshed.

Maybe Apple will pacify us with an HD69xx card and a Thunderbolt PCIe card this Spring/Summer with all this great new stuff being announced and released :D

I hope they will support the old EFI machines like my 1,1.

There is no reason to expect it, but I hope none the less.

I'll get a 69x0 if it works on my trusty MP.

Could be that we won't see new MPs until late this year due to the release of SB Xeons. The interesting thing, however, is that when will AMD 6xxx GPUs be flashable. Could be months before the release of new MPs

I stuck with the 5770 so that I could grab the next GPU upgrade so i'm eagerly awaiting this!

Same here! I wanted the HD5870 but at this point I don't see it being worth it. Unless the price drops significantly on the HD5870 when the HD6 series is released....

I hope no one is wanting a 68xx. They are no faster than 5870 and most of the time slower. They are there to lower the cost not enhance performance. 69xx would be the only upgrade path. 6950 is closest to 5870 (cheaper and could be set as standard config). 6970 slightly faster. So far ATI has had a so so year.
If you are not running a PC with all the HW market at your feet to price shop, not much going on.

Good points. This reminds me back when I had a HD4890 in my gaming rig and was reading how the 5 series improved power but not much performance. Same concept I guess. Maybe we will see a true upgrade, if not I will scoop up a HD5870 if thats the case!

The only time we have seen an ATI card been released outside a Mac Pro update was the 3870, a long time ago.

I say its unlikely we will see a new card before next Mac Pro is released.

They changed the model names. The 6970 is the successor to 5870, and it is faster.

And it's important to point out that the 3870 was a third party upgrade card released by ATI -  was not involved in any way, and you couldn't get it shipped inside a new Mac Pro.

It's possible, though tremendously unlikely, that a third party manufacturer would make and sell an upgrade card as EVGA did with the GTX 285, but aside from that, you'll see a new  video card with a new Mac Pro and not before.

There's always the chance that the ROM from the 6490M and 6750M + ATI drivers in the new MacBook Pros might lead to the clever rom makers being able to get 6xxx series cards working in Mac Pros.
