Apple hints at new product?

I had finally decided to make the purchase of my iMac this Saturday, then I hear about this. I do want a monitor/computer all in one, so you don't think this announcement will have anything competitive to the iMac right? I'm new to Apple and this just sounds so mysterious I don't want some epic new product to come out in a few months after I drop over two grand. I don't care about a minor refresh or anything as long as it isn't a major improvement...or something crazy.

I didn't know that. Is this change major and something I should wait for, or does it not matter much? I can wait if I need to but I don't know what it means. Thanks!

My take with the iMacs is that they are, for all intense and purposes, using technology comparable to Montevina. The current processor and chip set have is basically an Apple special that already includes a faster front end bus. At the high end I'd expect the next big change to iMacs will be the inclusion of quad core processors. So there may be some tweaking of configurations but I don't see a major performance jump till they adopt quad cores in the high end. That doesn't mean they won't do things like increase hard drive size, or offer faster video cards.
 
Around what time should we see this Montevina iMac update?
I'm planning on buying in August, but I wouldn't mind waiting until September/Early October if I got a better product.
 
It is the new mini. They will put the mobile Quad core in it and this will cut margins and in the short term may have a negative impact on iMac and tower sales.

There will probably be an update to certain computer lines, but the big news sounds like it will be something not listed now. Most rumor circulates around touch devices, be that a MacBook Touch, iMac Touch, or something a bit bigger than the iPhone. If I were to guess, I'd put my money on the MacBook (or Pro) Touch. Computing is shifting mobile, so I guess they'd start going that route first. I see no need for anything resembling the iPhone unless you start talking slightly smaller scaled-down versions.

I would love to see a Mac midtower in the $1,000 price range. Those are what the vast majority of non-notebook PC buyers get because of the upgradability. They should look at the Dell Inspiron series and start modeling a Mac after that.

Because the iMac basically has the improvements of Montevina without Montevina, we may not see an update until early next year. Then, Montevina CPUs will be speed bumped 133 MHz, which may be enough for Apple to do an update.
