HyperCard organizes information into easy-to-use "stacks" of cards through which users can navigate and search for the information they need.

eh... no mention of itunes or ipod or streaming or media for that matter... not really sure what this is. Never heard of HyperCard.

Oh baby hypercard!!!
Hypercard is an apple program from a long time ago. You could make cards with drawing that had buttons that linked to other cards. It was kinda like the how the web works. You could make text or images link to other cards. There was also more advanced scripting stuff where you could add music or make animations. It was real fun stuff and pretty easy. I did a bunch of school projects using hypercard.

edit: and yes i just googled apple and it has hypercard in the summary. It seems like maybe one of the web designers having fun? As far as I know hypercard's been dead for a while.

Sigh. Hypercard was a thing of sheer beauty.

Think offline web sites, presentation stacks with tons of embedded hyperlinks that could be used to interactively illustrate a concept, create a game, etc...

RIP Hypercard 1987-2004, you will be missed.

The original Myst was made on hypercard.

this thread is making me feel old. Now I'm remembering our first CD-ROM drive.

I realy miss HyperCard. :(

The scripting language was easy and beautiful even for a 10 year old back then. You could built anything from databases to multimedia presentations and games and you could design interfaces similar to the way Interface Builder works today. Drag a button on the stage, double click it and add the code.

There are some other derivative apps like SuperCard and Runtime Revolution that work under OSX and use a similar concept and language, but in my opinion nothing comes close to the original.

I still have a copy of HC. I use it from time to time. I'm still upset that they never, NEVER released HyperCard 3.0. 3.0 was supposed to be awesome. Some of the color features were included in 2.4.1, but they were not all it was to be. They even got to the point of being able to link stacks over a network and the internet. I remember a friend with a beta of HC3 that behaved much like a web browser, except for the card/stack analogy.

I miss HyperCard, the flower of early 90's technology.

Back in my high school days, we used HyperCard to make a presentation for the state technology fair that involved using it to link up a Quadra 660 AV, a laserdisc player, imported homemade films with a (not digital) video camera, and added music via the onboard CD player for making teaching aides for biology and physics. Won first prize two years running, too.

from what i remember that hypercard was similar to hyperstudio. just a simple fun presentation program. like PowerPoint.

PowerPoint doesn't have a scripting language. HyperCard could be used for writing programs too.

Why has no one even mentioned the OSX version of Hypercard?

SUPERCARD!

I used SuperCard for several projects that required color back then, cause HyperCard's color capabilities never matured. I remember that the interface was a bit messy and was much slower than HyperCard.

But as i've seen on their website there is a UB out now so i might give it a try.

God, I miss Hypercard. It was such a wonderful program. I remember making some school presentations in that program...

I miss those days.

what's even better is when you search for "apple hypercard" without quotations, you get a different search result (besides wikipedia). Could the search result be hacked? or is apple giving out a secret of a new HyperCard. i would crap my pants if they did.

I have SuperCard Player 4.6 installed. At version 4.6, the app hardly qualifies as "new."
