I need some advice. Years ago I put my daughter on my Apple ID. So we share the account. Well that was great when she was 12 but she’s 33 now. She has a lot more stuff on it than I do. My biggest problem is the address book. It has 4K entries where less than 100 are mine.

Is there a better way to do this than me creating a new Apple ID for myself and starting from scratch? I have my data backed up On Time Machine. i have a iPad which I use to do just about everything computer wise. I have a 2009 macbookpro. I just got a 2023 14” macbookpro and it would be nice to fix this on the new machine. I keep my computers a long time. I’m 70 now and expect to keep the 14” till it’s time for me to “check out”.

If you do change Apple ID, any purchases you made on your current Apple ID will not be accessible unless you set up family sharing. If you don't really care about any past purchases, make sure you have a solid backup of your contacts, and make a new ID.

If I were in your place, I would make a new ID for myself.

You can export your contacts from iCloud:

You can also export them from your Mac.

Once they're exported to a vCard, you can import them to a new AppleID account.

You should be able to export or archive anything else you want to save from the old AppleID.
